Internet gets cut

This happened to me after I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. The speed issue definitely has to do with out dated firmware and drivers for the router or network adapter. I use a USB wireless adapter by Linksys. I'm pretty happy to have my speed back and much better performace than XP Pro.

Just keep tweaking that router, you'll get there too. :)

Remember to update the firmware on the router, that was what killed my internet speed and always getting cutoff here and there.

When you were using Win7? Or did it happen before that as well? I've never encounterd anything like this before. It started to appear just after I installed Win7. Since so many has got this problem, I find it hard to believe they all had routers who made their lives miserable. But Win7 might be picky, I don't know. But what I do know is that I want a fix. :)

I'll try surfing and downloading without my router and see what happens.

Nope, it wasn't the router. It happens even without it.

When Win7 runs its troubleshoot, it says it found the problem and that it was missing a gateway. Since Win7 can fix the problem it has got to be something with Win7 itself.

Since this problem seem to have multiple solutions, I can only add what solved the problem for me.

Win7, so it seems, doesn't like certain drivers when it comes to network cards. It prefers its own. So if you've installed your network card and are experiencing internet drops/cuts when you are downloading or just browsing the webb, you should try uninstalling the driver and run with Win7's own driver.

Go to Manage > "Device Manager" and locate your network card and uninstall the driver, then reboot. This should (hopefully) solve the problem.

Its not that Windows 7 wants to only use the default driver...it is the fact the manufacture provided a non-working driver or you installed a driver that was incompatible for Windows 7...

The manufacture was to blame here...not Windows

The driver is for Win7. ;) But yes, you're right that the manufacturer is to blame since the driver doesn't work.
