Internet Hot spot

I have slow dial-up internet service & want to get a faster connection service. No dsl/cable/fiber optic lines available in my rural area. Don't really want to mess with satellite service. So is a hot spot device about my only/best choice? Don't have a monthly phone plan, only pay as I go. Verizon & Att have the best coverage in my NE Indiana location.
My computer motherboard doesn't have wireless(intel boxdg33tkm). What suggestions to setup new internet connection at home? A mobile device may be nice also as I could connect while away from home.

Cellular based hotspot devices work pretty well, I often use my phone's built-in hotspot when traveling. Major drawback is the cost of the data. The carrier will charge you by the GB.

You can get a wifi adapter for your desktop computer. Easiest is to get a USB adapter which you simply plugin to an available USB port. Alternative is an internal PCI card that can be installed inside your box. Both work well.

WiMax may be thru Sprint here in the states. From what I've read it may be getting shut down in November of this year. Hopefully I can find a long-term solution to eliminate dial-up service. I may be able to get a 15% discount thru Att as a union employee, just wish their signal was stronger(Verizon seems stronger on cell phones) at home, Sprint is even worse.
