Internet Pings but Does Not Load

Hi there!

From what I've been seeing and been doing my research for the past two days, many people have been having the same issues throughout the years, however, this is the first time I've encountered this issue and many of the specific workarounds or fixes have not worked for me. I've been trying to work through this for 24 hours straight now, but to no avail so many thanks to those that can help.

On Monday night, got home from work; surfing the internet for half an hour, everything was fine as always. Just after half an hour, my Internet got very sluggish and then it died completely. I thought it might have been the an update I just put through in terms of Windows Update that said was a critical update for MSE, as the same thing happened a few years ago. I did a System Restore to two different dates that were in the past two weeks, nothing.

Uninstalled MSE and disabled Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall: Nothing.

Reset IE Options, Reset Winsock, Dumping DNS, many of the other command prompt screens to reset items: Nothing.

Reset the modem: Nothing.

What DID work, however, was a ping test to Yahoo. The ping test worked, saying all four packets was recieved, yet nothing else popped up. LAN and CenturyLink said everything worked on their end and that everything was connected properly, as well as the speeds working fine.

CenturyLink said in their notes that they thought Port 80 was blocked. I went and put in the Firewall to allow Port 80 but it didn't make any difference whatsoever.

I remembered I had a spare modem laying around and I switched them up, both modem and the cords - nothing.

I then hooked it up to my netbook to see if that would work, as it usually does - connection didn't work there either.

Like I said, it's been about 24 hours now and this is increasingly frustrating, as I've tried all solutions (While browsing through 10 search results pages on my phone) suggested and still nothing.

Any suggestions and tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Here's my specs:

Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo 3.14 Ghz
4 GB Kingston DDR2 RAM
eVGA nForce 750i SLI
eVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB
ISP: CenturyLink
No router
Modem: CenturyLink 660 Series

PLEASE NOTE: This is the only computer I have (Like I said, the netbook solution didn't work), so downloading programs and such is not an option til I get to other computers somewhere else, like right now. Unless someone knows of a way of copying/pasting a file in Windows and then transferring said info to an Android smartphone, this is gunna take a while haha. Patience is requested. :)

Which nForce board do you have?

Have you tried using the secondary Ethernet port on the board?

Have you tried clearing the cmos on the board?

You do realize that you must go through the bios settings after clearing the cmos to return the settings to how they were before?

Besides the fact that I didn't tell you to clear the cmos, I only asked if you cleared the cmos on the board.

The Memory settings are usually the ones that matter most on nForce boards. This should only take a minute if you know the settings.

Sorry for the venomous reply, just getting frustrated about this. I've dealt with this kind of issue a few years ago so it feels as if the answer is right under my nose. I did put it back to the optimized settings in the BIOS, still kept crashing due to CPU overheating. I've left it quiet for 12 hours and its on in normal mode at the moment, hasn't made a peep yet. Connectivity issue is still there. Gunna get some thermal compound for the CPU in the long term.

I plugged in the ethernet cable from the modem into the netbook and it doesn't work either; same problem as the desktop. However, it worked with the wifi at work, albeit slow at times.

But anyways, here's the ipconfig/all for the desktop:

these should not be the same.

No, your modem is probably also a router. Since you have an private IPV4 address your not using your external IP address from your ISP until your modem connects to your ISP.

Each device needs to have its own unique private IP address. If DHCP is not doing this then i would suggest going into your modem/router and looking at the settings or just set a static IP address for one of the computers.
This can be done by going into network and sharing center (click on the computer icon in the system tray or from the control panel)
Then click on change adapter settings

right click on your current connection icon and select properties

Select Internet protocol version 4

click properties

Select use the following IP address

set IP address to something in your current range. like listed below.
ip address = 192.168.2.10
Subnet = 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway = 192.168.2.1

I posted the digits into the system exactly as you posted and now the Network and Sharing Center says there is absolutely no internet connection at all. Looked it up on IE and Chrome: Doesn't even show it loading anymore, directly goes to saying up top ieframe.dll and 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

The only thing i changed was the IP address assuming that your settings above are correctly configured. Can you ping 192.168.2.1 (this is the IP address of your router/modem)

Click Start Orb.
In search box type in CMD.
In command prompt type in ping 192.168.2.1

Thats Good that you can connect to the router.

I had a brain fart and forgot to tell you to enter DNS settings.

In IPV4 properties listed above enter 2 of the following 3 IP addresses.
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
192.168.2.1

First two are googles public DNS servers.
