Solved Internet regularly cutting out, more frequently on specific websites

Hello! I've seen a few different threads like this on other sites, but I have yet to find a solution that worked for me, so I've decided I had to get out there and ask myself.

The problem is my internet connection cutting out (in seemingly patterns?) and more frequently on specific websites (like Twitter for example).
It only goes out for a few seconds and then comes back, or it doesn't come back until I troubleshoot it (which always reconnects it). That, or it goes out every few seconds, and we play the troubleshooting-over-and-over game. Btw, my computer is always plugged into the router by an ethernet cable. (It can't wirelessly connect).

I've tried to update the driver (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller), which fixed it only temporarily. I also tried changing settings in the firewall, which also only fixed it for a temporary time.

Based on my experience, this is a problem specific to my computer. The internet hasn't changed since previous times when I didn't have this problem. I also haven't had any issues regarding the internet on my other devices (phone, laptop) and neither have my other family members.
I considered the possibility of the cable being faulty, but I don't think it is the case since I didn't have this issue at all before my PC had to be completely reset again with a fresh install of Windows 7.

I would really appreciate any help or advice you guys could offer, and let me know if you need more info.

Try flushing your DNS cache. Go to the start orb, under search and type in cmd. Right click cmd and open as Admin. Type the following into command prompt: ipconfig /flushdns.


Try these commands as well:


netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log


Look in Event Viewer under the control panel. It's under Administrative Tools. Look for warnings and errors. You can copy them with the keyboard shortcut control + C.

Run this and see if there's a LSP. Download LSP-Fix - MajorGeeks

There are many, many other things that can be done. Try these first. I mostly like to see the error log.

Does another browser exhibit the same behavior? I should have asked that first. Try this first in fact. Or are you seeing the yellow exclamation mark in your network adapter icon below on the right in the task bar?

The yellow warning sign is not present at all, it immediately goes to the red x and comes back soon after, skipping the yellow sign entirely. Also, I didn't even think about trying another browser but I will start doing that and see if it changes anything.

I still tried the commands you suggested, except the last one (it had said the command didn't exist). I also tried running the LSP program but there seemed to be an error in the registry with Winsock. That was after restarting after those commands, though. I'm unfamiliar with the specifics of that. ><;

I also looked in the Event Viewer, but I'm unsure what I should be looking for. Can you be more specific?

Did you copy each command and paste in the command prompt?

In the Event Viewer look for any errors and warnings like I already mentioned. Click the Windows Logs file tree and select the Application and System logs.

You may have to do a repair install.

That was a good suggestion actually- took a bit of time but I did go back to repair installation and it seemed to have fixed it, I haven't had this issue since. I honestly should of thought to do that, considering the problem wasn't there previous times when we did this. 😅 Sometimes you just need someone to tell you the obvious...
