Internet shortcut problem

Hi,
I have a small problem regarding the internet shortcuts in Windows 7.
I can not change the fields 'Rating' , 'Description' and 'Notes'.

When I try, I get the following error message
"An error has occurred when writing the property '**Name of the property**' to the file '**Filename**'".

Any idea to solve this?

Note that the file is not Read-Only and that I can change some other things, like the URL for example.

Edit:
Found a link on the net with other persons reporting the problem.

My Computer

OS
Win 7
Cant Modify Favorite Properties (.URL)

Im hoping someone might have some insight to a problem I have. I cant seem to modify the properties of any bookmark .URL/Internet Shortcut file.

Normally I was able to set the rating and description for URL files in Vista. This seems to be a problem under 7. For me any way.

Info
Windows 7 Ult. Admin acct. UAC is turned off.
Security software: MSSE

I have tried the following...
- Change properties from IE8, bookamrks panel. No go.
- Change properties via Windows Explorer, Details pane. No go.
- Created new URL shortcuts on the desktop and external drive. Still cant modify the files from Windows Explorer.
- Tried right clicking and going thru the properties dialog. Also no go.

Im willing to try anything that sounds reasonable. TIA

I'm pretty sure this is a bug. It was around in RC and it wasn't fixed in RTM. As far as I can tell, it's not related to permissions - I think it's just a coding bug that's preventing details from being added/updated/etc.

That would be a shame. I archive old bookmarks and would like to start adding descriptions and ratings. Then add them into a new library for sorting.

I might try creating a .NET app to see if I can modify the properties that way. Im not sure at what level/point the shell cant write to the files.

As a side note I can modify ratings, tags etc on just about every other file type (that supports it). MP3, XPS, Office docs, JPG's etc.

Can anyone else set a rating or description for a .URL file type?

Nope. I've posted questions on a few Microsoft support boards - when I hear something, I'll let you know.

Well, I posted in the Technet forums in two different places, but so far I've on one thread I've only gotten a recommendation to post in the Vista IT forums (uhhhh, ok then...) by an MVP, and in the other thread I've gotten a reply from someone that also can't edit the properties, and a reply from someone who is confused on what the issue really is.

Really helpful "post in the Vista forum" reply...
Can't alter properties for bookmarks - 'An error has occurred when writing the property...'

Same issue and confused guy reply...
Can't alter properties for bookmarks - 'An error has occurred when writing the property...'

Hopefully an MVP will be helpful and tell me where to file a bug report, because I haven't found any place to do that.

No problem. I'll be submitting a bug report, as soon as I figure out how to submit bugs on RTM. It's funny that no one seems to know how, and that there is no option in the OS (or even on the MS website, AFAIK).
