When my Mitsubishi modem is connected to my Belkin n+ router:

Speedtest : 98mbps download, 80mbps upload
Torrent download : around 3.5MB/s or roughly 28mbps

When Mitsubishi modem is connected directly to PC:

Speedtest : same as above
Torrent download : average up to 9MB/s or 81mbps

Equipment used and configurations:

Windows 7 ultimate
Intel i5-750
Mitsubishi modem on Fiber connection
CAT 5e cables
Belkin N+ gigabit router
Firewall disabled
Ports for torrent client opened

Is this a router related problem or is my Windows 7 not properly configured? It seems connecting the router in between the PC and modems cuts my bandwidth to 1/3. No other programs are running when tests were made.

Help!
Thanks in advance :D

I've had router problems such as yours and the fix was a new router. You can try reloading the router or if there is a firmware update for the router try that but I would suspect the router is the problem.

I've had a lot of problems (in client's systems) with Belkin products. I use and recomment LinkSys (Cisco) routers. The local cable company tech says they see less problems with LinkSys routers than other brands.

Thansk for the quick reply fireberd :D

I already did a firmware update to the latest build but still my speed is reduced to 1/3.

When you say linksys(cisco) do you mean any of their routers? I'm looking at the 320N but I'm afraid to spend and find out that the problem is just configuration with windows 7 networking and the belkin router.

Welcome to Windows 7 Support Forums,
Beefy if its the torrent issue you see change the configuration.
With torrent settings I suggest you look at throttle sppeds.

The way i tested my speed using torrents is downloading a single torrent(40GB) from a private site then wait until the speed stabilizes. When the modem is connected directly to the pc, it stabilizes around 8-9MB/s.

I then pause the torrent, then connect the modem to the router then to the pc. Torrent is restarted and stabilizes to 3.5MB/s. I pause again, connect the modem to directly to the PC and restart the torrent and speed stabilizes at 8-9MB/s.

I tried doing this again with a different torrent but this time, I start the torrent when the system is connected to the router. I get the same results every time :(. Also did this on different days so now I'm almost about to give up on this router
