I'm trying to download a 12 gb file and I notice the speed drops down to 30 kb/s when I get off the computer and back to 2 mb/s when I'm active on the computer. Is this some power setting somewhere?

Hello yk7 Just how are you measuring that speed? My machines are just the opposite like when scanning with the AV etc
Have you tried the Florian Gilles speed monitor - it is free and might give you a better idea than what you have got. After the download just sit it on the taskbar.
