Hello;

I upload a lot of photos and videos to YouTube and Picasa. The problem I have is that they take over my connection while I am uploading. Picasa has a converse bandwidth setting, which does help. However sites like YouTube have no such option. While I am uploading on my Windows 7 machine, the internet on my other computers, ipods, and streaming netflix is virtually un-usable. My connection is DSL 1/2MB up / 6MB down.

I got a new Dlink N+300 router in hopes that it's traffic shaping would help. It does seem to help with web browsing and e-mail while uploading. However, Netflix on the Wii is still un-usable.

I haven't been able to figure out if there is something different on the D-link router that would help, there seems to be a lot of conflicting info online about how well their traffic shaping works and what settings to use.

So I started to think about an application level control in windows over the bandwidth used. If the programs had something like Filezilla has where you can tell it what you want to limit it to, that would solve the problem.

I saw a windows program called NetLimiter, I know nothing about it, but it sounds like it might do what I am looking for.

Otherwise if there some just something I could do to stop the whole Windows machine from using more than say 80% of my upload bandwidth, that would solve the problem as well.

So I'm thinking the NetLimiter or similar software may be what I need to solve this problem, but I thought I would ask here just to see if anyone had any other ideas on dealing with this issue (such as something built into windows or changes I could make on the router).

Thanks Much!

Update: Much of these problems I had ended up being due to my old Internet connection. I had my service upgraded to U-Verse and it works much much better. I still have problems if I upload too many things at once. I've used a trial on the Net Limiter program and it does work to limit your bandwidth on specific programs.

If you have similar problems, I would look at your Internet connection first.
