I'm having some serious issues with my internet speed. I am on Virgin Media 60mb with the ISP provided router. We have 4 computer connected via wires and several wireless devices. In the last month my computer has been suffering some serious internet issues.

My regular connection on speedtest.net would give 55-60mb/s, in the last month after downloading or streaming video online my internet connection would become unusable and sitting around 0.08mb/s.

All the other computers and devices on the router remain fine.

I have tried updating drivers, re-installing network devices, resetting network settings and 2 different NICs. I've also reset the router repeatedly and also tried disabling the firewall.

As a last ditch effort I re-formatted my computer and re-installed Win 7. The connection worked fine for a while until I was re-downloading some software and the connection went again.

Like I previously mentioned I have tried 2 different NICs, 1 wired and 1 wireless. The issues remains on both. I've run out of ideas.

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Sorry that no one had any suggestions on your post back in December. I cannot think of anything for you to try - but I have asked others to stop by your thread and see what comes to their minds.

I have, it gives a ping response time of <1ms. Pinging Google gives a ping response time in the region of 35-45ms, occasionally popping up to 50ms.

I altered the ping to google.com instead of Google and it gave a different result which I didn't expect. I have attached a picture to demonstrate the issue.

I can try, it tends to not load because the internet speed is that bad. I'll leave it load for a few minutes and see if I can get a result.

I've changed ports on the router, moved the computer and used someone else cable and tried using a separate wireless NIC. The problems appears to persist over all the options.

Managed to get a score off of speedtest. Download 0.09 Mbps Upload 0.17 Mbps

A quick update. After several suggestions of the same thing I removed some RAM sticks. I have 4x8gig sticks. I'm now down to 2 sticks and the internet is currently behaving in a favourable manner. It's not at full speed, but it's now in a usable state at around 30mb/s so down about half.

thanks good how much is your board rated to be able to use with the cpu?

For windows 7 64-bit editions, Home Premium can use up to 16GB, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate can use 192GB. so you may have to much ram?!

It's a bit of a weird one that. The manual states a max of 12gb, after doing research online for my motherboard it stated a max of 24gb. Win 7 does pick up all 32gb though. It's a first gen i7 socket 1366 motherboard. Asus P6T ASUS - - ASUS P6T

Now I'm aware of Windows limitation on home premium I'll leave 2 sticks out until I upgrade my system again.

If the speed was normal after reinstall until a certain program or update was installed it might be the culprit.

This can be determined by reinstalling following these same steps to get a perfect baseline Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

After installing the necessary LAN driver to get online if it's not provided, then run all rounds of Important and Optional Updates after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3).

Then run for day or two before installing any programs - besides Flash, Java, Adobe Reader. Instead spend the time setting up your desktop, copying in files.

Once performance is confirmed with only Updates, start installing programs slowly over time with enough time in between each to test performance. This should isolate the exact Update or program that's causing the problem, you can System Restore to get before it and post back here for help resolving it.
