Internet through Proxiy server

Dear Experts,

I am using internet on my office computer through proxy server address which is configure in my internet browser LAN setting. My network adapter configure wit static IP address, Sub-net mask, default gateway & preferred DNS address,
For as test, I change IP address in network setting then checked, my internet was not working, Please can any one explain me why?
I changed only last one digit of IP, for Expample
Original IP 172.16.55.50 Work
Change IP 172.16.55.51 Not Work
Please guide me how to check which IP enable for internet & which IP not allowed for internet?

Hi arshadmahmood,
If you have a static IP, you cant change the IP address in the adapter-hence it being "static" as opposed to dynamic. 172.16.55.50 is static. If you know the IP of the proxy server you wish to use, just configure it in your LAN settings.
tools/internet options/LAn settings/proxy server.
