Hey guys I just reformatted my pc with windows 7 ultimate. I have installed only 2 things yet.
1. Audio driver
2. Onboard Realtek NIC driver for WIn 7

I have a strange problem. I am connected through a wired connection which goes into a switch on the neighboring bldg. I can create a dial up connection and connect to the internet but I cannot connect to LAN. My LAN icon shows an exclamation mark.
The result of this is VERY SLOW DOWNLOAD SPEED. I have checked my on board nic and its working fine.

I used to get around 100 kbps average speed in Windows XP where I had both the LAN and Dial-up connections working.

But in windows 7 I can only use dialup and not LAN. It shows unidentified n/w(On diagnose it shows invalid ip4 config.)

I tried the "netsh winsock reset catalog" command but no luck.
Looking forward for Invalid ip4 address solution.
:)

More specific info needed on your motherboard model to get the latest driver for you. There are all different kinds of S3G.

32 or 64 bit?

Gigabyte updated their drivers only like 4 days ago.

Try a Windows Update if you like. If no success, give us the info I've requested, please.

Show me the device manager with sound section maximized. Also double click the device in question and go to driver tab. Post a screenshot of these.

Going by the error you're receiving, make sure DHCP is enabled on your router.

If that doesn't help, setup a static ip on the adapter.

When u installed that driver, did the yellow exclamation mark go away?

Check the vendor website to see what LAN/Network drivers are available.

1.See the below screen. I have no problem in any drivers.
2. Yes. DHCP is enabled and started.
3. I cannot see a valid ip in ipconfig /all, all i can see is the invalid one.

Your lan cable might be damaged. Inspect it. Plug it into a different port on the router.

Tried that already. But it worked on my sis's win xp machine. :(

First, make sure your router is not set to authorize an ip to only trusted machines by mac address. Enter the mac address of the Realtek thingamajig if it does have authorization enabled for macs.

Double click network adapter in device manager. Go to advanced tab. Give us a screenshot of that so we can see what's in property box.

Seeing the cmd prompt screenshot, I really would try to set up a static ip. Look at the incorrect mask. Set a static ip with subnet mask = 255.255.255.0

In the network address part, put this

hit ok. Reboot.

If that doesn't help, change it back to no address present.

As I've said 2x, I think a static ip may do the trick.

Let us know how it goes after you've done these 2 different attempts.

Well, changing n/w address to 111111111111 didn't help. I changed it back to not present.

But this is a little wierd.
These are the PPP settings I got when I connected through dial-up
ipv4-- 202.177.254.158
subnet--255.255.255.255
gateway-- 0.0.0.0
DNS--172.31.29.1
--202.177.240.251

The only problem is the gateway. 0 isnt accepted as a value. Hence I called up my isp. But he said that Windows 7 doesn't supports PPPoE. (I really LMAO here). He says he can't give me a gateway since it changes everytime with ip.

When I connect through dialup the exclamation icon goes away. but still the speed is slow as before.

When I disconnect from dialup the exclamation icon appears again.
See the images
I would like to know if there is any solution to obtaining the gateway. Coz the only solution the ISP gave me is to reformat my system to Windows XP which I don't wanna do X( .

Please reply fast guys :(

In this case, only your ISP can help. Since they refuse to, you have to ask them again or go back to XP to continue being a customer.

Tell them nicely that you wish your request to be elevated and you'd like to speak with a supervisor. Do it nicely. You'll likely get further.
