I'm using Backup and Restore. My backup drive is full. If I look at Manage space, I see several recent bu files. They are of different sizes. Suppose they are:

50G June
40G July
90G Aug
70G Sept

Some notes on B&R seem to be telling me that I can delete any of the files. If I delete June, July and Aug, does Sept carry and the data previously store above it in it?

Suppose I restore Aug. I would guess whatever is in Sept. does not have whatever was in Aug afterwards?

What is different between say July and Aug? Is there anything common between them?

Is there a tutorial that gets into the details of what is really happening (thoroughly) and operationally in B&R

What data is contained in backup periods?

I have 7 back up periods in B&R. They vary in size from about 60G to 90G. 70G, 66G, 81G, ... 88G (most recent). My backup drive is at its limit. If I delete the first six, will I have a full backup with 88G?

Thanks. I had more or less forgotten about the first post. I'd been hunting elsewhere for awhile w/o making much progress on the understanding how this works. I had wandered onto Google for help, but that dragged me into increments and differences and other awkward places more suitable for an administrator. They just didn't connect with the B&R interface. No one really addressed How to Manage Windows as seen on the Backup Windows Dialog, which lists the Backup Periods in any detail. My backup drive was getting too big too fast. So now I'll dump all but the most recent one.

Further question. I knocked off a couple of backup periods, and decided to try a restore with the Restore My Files button. There's a selection, Choose a Different Date, and three buttons on the right: Search, Browse for files, and Browse for folders.

I'm backing up on my L: drive, and there I have several files at the top level, and several folders at the same level. My B&R is set to BUp L:\Solar. Everything else at the top level requires no further BUps.

If I chose a different date, a menu of dates going back 6 or 12 months is available. If I select one of the dates it looks like it will restore everything for that set of date and times shown there. Very likely some the early date/times do not exist, since I only began to use L: in the last 6 months. Anyway, that gives me one way of restoring.

I would think the, say, Browse for Folders button is yet another. Pushing it gives me dialog gives me restore choices from C: and L:, plus two folders at the User's level. This seems desirable, sensible, and OK. The other two buttons probably just give two more ways to do a restore. So my question is, is this a correct view of matters?
