I think my laptop has been invaded by a bot or something equally sinister. As soon as I boot up my computer, it starts downloading from the web even though I do not open my email program or internet explorer. It will keep downloading until I turn off my wifi or close down the computer. I am limited on my usage (10 gigs a month) so I need to get rid of whatever is causing this to happen. I am running win 7 64 bit home and this is a recent problem. It has operated OK for the past year or so. Does anyone have an idea what is causing this? Virus scans have turned up nothing.

What is it downloading? is it possible it is trying to download updates that dont get the chance to finish causing it to start downloading each time you start up.
possibly change the updates setting to not download then start up again and see if it has stopped.

Also, Electronic Arts (EA) games will check for and download updates at startup unless you disable the downloader via msconfig.

You might also set AutoRuns to run at startup to help determine what's initiating the download.
