Invisible Folder

Hello,

I have just installed Windows 7 64bit after using the RC for the last few months.

In doing so I copied the contents of my C drive to a folder called C DRIVE BACKUP on one of my secondary HDDs.

After formatting C and installing Windows 7 you can imagine my horror to discover that C DRIVE BACKUP had disappeard.

Acctually though it hasn't - if I type the directory into Explorer I can navigate it fine, but it doesnt show up in the directory above it.

I am very concerned about this as I dont know what other files & folders may be sitting on my drives but are not visible.

Does anyone know what may be the cause?

Between this, Flash player bringing up a UAC dialog on EVERY web page load and the vanishing recycle bin im wishing id just kept the RC!

EDIT: Hold on, turns out C DRIVE BACKUP thinks its a system file, thats why I couldnt see it, why I have no idea....

Just guessing:

If you copied your ENTIRE C drive to a backup drive, then you copied your installed programs, your Windows folder, system 32 folder and everything else to the backup location. That may be why it is hidden.

If you had copied ONLY your personal data from C to the backup drive, I would guess it wouldn't have disappeared.

I don't use that C:\users directory at all. All my data is on a D partition. Windows puts a few things in C:\users, but I rarely have to look there.

Hi ignatzatsonic,

I copied almost everything - both Program Files folders, and Users aswell as some of my down directories.

I used to copy personal data only but in these days of SATAII and 1TB disks I can't see a reason not to just copy everything then pick up the bits you need afterwards.

I suppose the Users folder must've contained something that Windows considered system only - I did have to take ownership of the whole directory before I could unhide it and make it writeable.

My original post looks very stupid now as in retrospect unhiding Everything would be the first thing to do for a missing folder but I was in a bit of a panic after thinking I had lost a decade of personal files a moment ago!
