I don't know what it is, but every time the latest iGimmick comes out I get a bit miffed. Especially because the stuff they seem to produce isn't that great.

The article

slimmer than last year's 3GS model - the firm has also invested plenty of time into changing how we chat.
Every iPhone 4 features a second camera on the front so you can see - and be seen - by the person you are speaking to.

Called FaceTime, it's a truly revolutionary advance in technology. Video calls are nothing new, but in the past they have relied on the 3G mobile network which often led to shaky pictures on screen and stuttering audio. It also worked out very expensive.
FaceTime only works if both people have an iPhone 4 and each caller must be connected to a wireless internet signal. But that means it will cost nothing to use if you're at home or hooked up on the high street to free Wi-Fi.

So, you can video call people with your camera that's on the front. Wow, I had this back in '06 and it was hardly cutting edge then. Only thing is, both people must have an iPhone, oh and you've got to be on Wi-Fi. So really, what's the point? Is it really that revolutionary?

As I walked in to work today there was easily 200 people outside the Apple shop all waiting to bust the doors down, about another 75 round the corner at the O2 shop. But my main gripe is a lot of these people don't have a clue. A girl in my office got one a few weeks back. In her words, "I just have to have an iPhone." Since she got it she doesn't know how to sync it to her computer and put songs and apps on, so really she has it for nothing more than the name.

Don't want this to sound like and anti Apple rant, (though I am pretty anti Apple lol) because they do produce some decent stuff and so long as their around it means competition and competition means that rivals will strive to produce better products.

I guess I just dislike the whole idea of Apple as a brand name, rather than a computing company that serve a purpose.

Any of you guys plan on picking one of these up? If so, what's the appeal to you?

i agree with you mate, the only appeal i see is that it's for those apple fans that go 'oh it's new by apple must have'

or the fact it's all this so called HD, even though it's only 5 megapixel camera.. I'm a student so i couldn't afford either way... but i would consider buying an 3GS as it has all the same software capabilities and i don't need video chat or higher pixel resolution to good for the naked eye or an extra 1.8 Mpx

also close to my home ;) haven't been down to belfast in a while any new half decent shops down there lately?

You can still get the 3G which is probably cheaper again and does mostly the same stuff.

As for shops not really mate. I always think that Victoria Square is new but it's like 3 years old now! Where you at if your not in Belfast?

Not a clue mate but a girl I know got one on contract fairly cheap, so 2nd hand couldn't be that expensive.

Banbridge, haven't been there in years. Belfast is a bit muck like, but what are you gonna do.

I own the first generation iPhone and had no interest in the 3G or the 3GS, because I knew a 1 GHz processor was the future and I was going to wait.

I am a "1 thing does it all" type of person. I don't like watches or jewelry becuase I dont like things hanging off my body. I always wanted an iPod video but didn't want to lug it around and have one more piece of tech in my bag. When the iPhone came out it was sexy and it was a phone and the iPod in one sweet package, plus all the extras like a browser blah blah blah.

I will be purchasing the iPhone 4 ASAP because its got everything I want in a phone wrapped in a nice package. Will I use even 5% of the phones ability, nope, not a chance, and that's why I don't want the EVO 4G, that phones just got too much going on.

p.s. I have trained myself to refer to my iPhone as my cell phone, I cant stand it when I call it my iPhone :zip:

I really liked my 1st gen iPod touch. Until the home button broke.
But I still REALLY like it as a music player.

Other than that, I don't really like apple products. Too much slim and shiny.
I want flat black, badass looking stuff, you know? Male testosterone, not estrogen.

There was a big line here in San Diego at the Apple store this morning. People camping out for the new iPhone. It amazes me. I've never camped for anything other than concert tickets.

However, there was also a line for the grand opening of the Microsoft store today.

The lines were about the same size.

Man, I thought I was hardcore...:p

I reckon at least 80% of people that buy i-anything don't have a clue. Apple's marketing has worked wonders and people rush to get their latest product. Over priced and underperformed. My HD2 is better in every way (compared to iPhone 3Gs) but most iPhone users I challenge "haven't heard of HTC"...(says it all)

It's all a big con from them. I remember 3G being out for years on other phones but not the first iphone. They later introduced it like it was a new feature(it was in the 2nd edititon) so they had another selling point. Why didn't they introduce with the first iphone when it was available?

So you can now make video calls on the new one. Wow, how original and new is that?

I steer clear of all apple related products, they are nothing more then gimmicks!
