I can't get my iPhone to properly sync with iTunes under Windows 7 RC 7127.

The iPhone is recognized by the system and its recognized by iTunes, but when I click on sync it starts with iPhone backup first and it gets about 3/4 of the way and just sits there. I can then cancel the sync on the iPhone and try again and get the same problem. So because it never backs up, it never syncs.

I had similar issues with Windows 7 RC 7100 and after I restarted the computer it worked. But with 7127 I can't get it to work at all.

Anyone else have any issues?

Not here...my iPhone 3G syncs fine with 7127 and now 7137. My only gripe is that it will not open iTunes and sync automatically when I plug the phone in...it used to in Vista...but not too much of a hassle to do it manually I guess.

I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and all Apple software. I tried again and got the same issue, but this time i got patient.

The first sync wants to do the backup. It took about half-hour to do it, but after that it finally synced. I hope backups don't take this long everytime. I see no options in the software to make it stop doing backups.

You really don't want to disable backups for the iPhone if you can help it. My first one was stolen and I think I'd still be trying to set up the replacement were it not for the backup.

You might try giving the phone a hard reset...press and hold both the menu and power buttons until the Apple logo reappears. Sometimes that helps with internal junk collection and may speed up your backup process.

The problem isn't Windows, it's the phone. I had the same one awhile ago when the iPhone 2.0 firmware came out. I tried to update and it would start a backup first but never finish. The only way I fixed it was to reset the iPhone. It's a pain and you'll have to give it a lot of time to restart and then to sync all your music back, but it should fix the problem. The biggest hassle is losing your contacts, so make sure you find a way to save those before resetting.

Have you noticed any problems with other USB operations?

Since installing Windows 7, anything I do via USB is painfully slow. This includes syncing my iPhone, transfering from a flash drive, etc.

I too have had problems, but I found a program called iPhone Backup Switch, that will disable/enable backup for iphone. I left my phone "backing up" overnight to have it still not completed. So try that.

Windows 7 sync problem (deselect picture/photo syncing)

My phone would start syncing fine, then after a few minutes would just get stuck. I tried reinstalling iTunes, restoring my phone and even left it syncing for 8 hours hoping it would eventually Finnish. All that , and no change. After trying different things, I discovered that if you deselect the picture syncing ( do not sync any photos to you phone) it syncs fine. Everything works as it should, music, video and apps etc.

My external HD fails part way into a backup (unknown device) and I just bought a brand new iTouch which fails (same thing) during a sync. The same HD worked flawlessly under Vista x64 (I have Win7, Intel quad core and 4G ram)
Tried my front USBs, back USBs etc....

That appeared to work for me also. I unchecked syncing my photos, and my iPhone backed up and synched normally.

Well, it appears I spoke too soon. I plugged in my iPhone this morning, and it failed to sync completely. ITunes also tries to "Verify" my phone, which ends up messing up the sync. *Sigh* :(

Iphone windows 7 sync problem, the saga continues.

Hi All,
Apologies about the length of the message, however I am at the intergalactic frustration stage with iphone sync problems...can someone help. I have seen many threads on this issue and tried all of the fixes and nothing has worked.

First the preliminary details.

OS-windows 7, home premium.
System type- 64 bit
Hardware, Lenovo x200 laptop (brand spanking new).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes (both versions 32bit, 64bit).
Currently i have 9.0.3.15 (64 bit version) installed.
The itunes mobile device service is running.
The driver that windows has assigned to my iphone is a camera driver - "MTP USB Device "..windows says this is the best driver for this device. (I have not put in the file names).

The Problem- itunes does not recognize the iphone at all, windows does recognize it as a camera. I have tried all, and I mean all, of the suggestions on the apple/forums website. De-install,then install itunes. I have tried to use USBAAPL as my driver, however windows says that its 32bit not 64bit. I installed the 32 bit version of itunes and tried again...same message (I cant seem to find a USBAAPL 64bit version). I am back with the 64 bit version now, stuck with MTP USB device driver ....that insists that my iphone is a camera, which is strictly true, however if you have ever used the camera on the iphone you know that is pushing the bounds of credulity. I have a brand new lap top (lenovo x200) with the latest BIOS, and drivers on it . I know this cause I went out and downloaded the drivers and installed them (the message was that the image on my machine is that the latest and greatest.). I have tried to use all of the different usb ports on my laptop, same issue. I have rebooted the iphone, same issue. (p.s. the iphone still works on the old machine (32 bit version of itunes. windows xp...usbappl driver.)...I have updated my drivers, repaired my drivers...my drivers are driving me to the looney bin.

Any help or useful suggestions would be greatly appreciated....a highly frustrated user...Paul
