Touch will use the battery faster. Touchscreens are notorious power hogs.

That said, I have a Nano 4th gen and I don't like the new 5th gen. (the screen is too big, wheel too small for my taste)

So if I were going to buy a new iPod it would be a touch. Besides, you can get internet on the Touch.

Seriously though, if I had to choose, I would go with the nano, if you have a big music collection. If not, then I would go for the 8GB 3rd Gen.

Touch and Nano are two totally different kinds of iPods, only you can choose which one is for you by the features they have and the features you want/need.

+1.
That said, I think they should have stopped building the 8GB Touch instead of the 16 GB one......but that's me. In fact, I wouldn't buy the 8GB Touch at all....I would either choose something completely different(most likely) or save up the additional $100 to get the 32GB Touch. But YMMV.

I own a 2nd gen iPod touch, and I find that iPod touches lose battery power very quickly when surfing the web and playing games. That might be a problem if you plan to buy a touch.

The two iPods have different features, so you have to choose carefully. If you want the do-everything iPod, then get the touch, but if you like light weight, and small size, then get the nano. I find the nano pretty good actually, because it also has a small collection of simple games, and it has a video camera and radio tuner.

Here is my advice: if you want a do-everything iPod, then get an iPhone, because it gives you a few extra convenient features.

Oh, and by the way, if all you do is listen to music, then the iPod touch's battery life is more than enough. But if you play games, then three hours straight is all it takes to drain the battery.

As others have already said, the iPod Touch is a much more advanced device more like the iPhone than a typical iPod. iPod Touch gives you the benefit of apps, Internet, games, etc on a level the Nano doesn't.

All that said, you should know that the current 8GB Touch is NOT the 3rd-gen, it's the 2nd-gen. It has much shorter battery life and a much slower processor than the 32GB and 64GB models, which are 3rd-gen.
