Hey guys

in a bit of a pickle here, having installed my GPU drivers (8600GTS) about 2 months ago onto 7057, i used i believe 1.81 drivers (Cant remember exact number) for vista 64.

that lasted fine up untill about 2 weeks ago where my PC would randomly freeze and my screen would become filled with what appears to be text randomly mashed together vertically down the screen, requiring a manual reboot.

I then installed Nvidias latest drivers designed for Win7, and now the problem happens a lot more frequently than it did! Any help would be great

This sounds to me like the graphics card physically is going bad on you & not driver related at all.

Try running a 3DMark Vantage benchmark on it & see what happens.
If it happens during the bench testing or freezes or crashes this is more than likely the problem.

Also it could be overheating...
You can check the temps by installing EVGA Precision which is basically Rivatuner redone for EVGA. ;)
Great for OCing you card as well.
Just create a free account with EVGA & you can download it.

Thanks for the quick followup.

I have had a few issues with this card before, during summer (Australian summer with no aircon = :() and would reach 90ishc under load.

I contacted XFX's support and they shrugged me off saying that those temps are normal. Could those temps have damaged my card? Doesnt bother me anyway because its way outdated :D

Downloading 3dmark now, will test when i get home from work (Australian net speed ftl)

I had a BFG 7800 OC card that was doing the same thing, GPU and memory temps were high but not over the top. Under extreme gaming it would only take a few minutes to trip out forcing a power down hard reset.
It turned out it was the voltage regulators on the card over heating, the heat sink on them was not enough for the environment it was running in. So I rigged up a northbridge fan the blow directly over the regulator heat sinks. Problem despaired.

I have an 8600GT graphics card. Using the beta, I had a problem of vertical lines in IE8 if I scrolled back up on a site page. That went away when I got Windows7 RC1. I've used both NVidia drivers and Windows drivers without seeing any difference. I never had the problem you described.

You could also consider updating the build of windows. The official RC is out now and there is also build 7127 floating around. I would advise updating then see how you go from there.

Regarding the temps, they are ok but you are pushing it at 90+c. I dont know what the temps should be on them but I think you need to check what their temps are averaging.
