Is a password login necessary to share files within a workgroup?

On a workgroup home network, can a win 7 or win 8.1 computer be shared if it does not require a password to log in? If so, how can another PC connect to it with Explorer?

If they don't have the same userid then yes, I believe you need passwords.

You can try defining everyone then give it whatever access you want.
