I leave mine on most of the time, but always reboot at least once a week just to let things reset again.

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
I only shut mine down when I have to open it up, otherwise it is on 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

This is the longest any of my machines have gone without a reboot or shut down,

the only problem you will encounter i believe is OVERHEATING if your cooling system are not working well.

>>if however you have a HIBERNATE mode on your power settings, it is a good idea to have your pc HIBERNATE for a while to cool down before you intend to go to bed, and turn it on if you decide to sleep (and set your pc to go HIBERNATION again to time you want before you wake up.)

No, it won't affect anything. I do myself all the time, especially when I am downloading large files and leave my PC unattended.

I leave my desktop on 24/7 and just reboot every once in a while. I do turn it off when I go out of town and when there is a really bad thunderstorm going on. Laptop lifespan will be shortened if left on continuously.

1. If your not having a cooling problem running check disk over night should not be a problem.
2. Turning off you monitor will not effect the check disk.
3. When using a computer in a normal fashion (non server) I know of no good reason to leave it on other than the few seconds you save in booting.

Mine runs 24/7, apart from a reboot now and then, and my monitor gets turned of when I go to bed. Before this rebuild my last pc ran 24/7 for almost a total of 4 years, and never had a hardware prob, always the idiot in front of screen.

Everybody has their own preference on whether to shut down a computer, or leave it on all the time and use hibernate mode. Personally, I prefer to shut my computer down when I am not home, or at night.

...3. When using a computer in a normal fashion (non server) I know of no good reason to leave it on other than the few seconds you save in booting.

I tend to be on and off my computer multiple times a day and rebooting every time would both increase wear and tear on it and waste a significant amount of my time (my desktop is still XP).

As mentioned, its fine.

I normally just leave mine on 24/7 with weekly reboots.
But lately, I have been shutting down at night, but leave it on all day.

It will not hurt either way you choose to do it.

Go Green and get a SSD so you can boot in under 30 seconds and close down in the same or less. Then you'll save money, heat, energy and time. I find that since adding an SSD I'm much more inclined to turn my rigs off when away for any extended period of time....but that's just me. Keep in mind if you leave a system with good cooling properties on it will need routine cleaning MUCH more often. Like mandatory 3-6 months depending on environment maybe more often.

+1 :) I haven't had my SSD long, but it is by far the best thing I have purchased for my PC. If you have a spare $100 laying around, you won't be sorry.
