Hi Experts,

Could you please clarify whether Minitool partition wizard is ideal tool to partition the C drive which has unmovable files?

Please let me know.

I don't wanna to use minitool bootable cd/flash drive so can i go ahead with tool alone?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!!!

Yes. Lots of folks here use that tool to do just that: shrink the C: drive to make room for another partition.

It is not advised to alter the C: drive while Windows is running, so we use the bootable CD or bootable USB versions to do the job. These are Linux based and can start and run without an operating system running.

How to shrink partition in Windows 7 with the help of MiniTool Partition Wizard.

Yes -- I have used it for that purpose. Be sure to download the Minitool Partition Wizard BOOT CD -- and use that.

I use EaseUS partition master, which is free for home use, and can do it without using CDs or USB thumbdrives. Tell it what you want to do, and when applying the changes it will say "hey I must reboot the computer to do this" after you say yes it will reboot, boot itself instead of windows 7, do what it was supposed to do, then reboot windows 7 again.

You must use the bootable CD (or USB stick) of Partition Wizard to manipulate the C partition. And although it is safe, I highly recommend to make an image of C before you start playing with it. I once wiped it due to a small operational mistake I made.

No, it does not look like you can create the bootable USB drive free. You need to use the Bootable Media Builder for MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition to do this. It does not look like the free (Home) version has that feature.

For that reason, plus no optical drive to use, plus the distance factor, plus the inexperienced user, I advise having your sister find a computer repair shop near her to do this job. That way there is little danger of messing anything up and she could probably get that done for the same cost as buying the pro version.

Or lets see what bobafett has to say about Easus. Maybe you can get a bootable USB free there.

If your sister does no know how to deal with a bootable CD, she certainly should not be manipulating the C partition.

First thing she needs to do before touching the C partition is to make an image of the C partition. Does she know how to do that and does she know how to restore the image in case of problems ??

I understand your problem. But if your sister does not have any system knowledge, she should really not be dealing with the C partition. She could turn a small problem into a big problem (e.g. an unbootable or corrupted OS).

Maybe you can do it for her via Teamviewer: TeamViewer - Free Remote Control, Remote Access & Online Meetings

Wait a second, what is the size of that drive, how much GB of capacity are already used?

If the drive contains files that you want to move to the new partition, you need to transfer them to an external drive first, or do the procedure below multiple times, after each time you transfer files from C to D to free space on C, then you shrink C and increase D.

@ obafetthotmail: EaseUS partition master does not require bootable CD/Drive?shall i go ahead with this tool? Please guide me.
The program is easy to use and does not need a CD or flash to do its job, and from that link, you can see the feature list. I advise to try it on your own machine to see for yourself (just don't ever click "Apply"), and if you don't think your sister can do it, ask her if she has a moderately tech-savyy friend that can do this.

Download and install it from the link I provided. Open the program, select "Go to Main screen".
Now, if you want to make two partitions you need first to shrink disk C, so follow this tutorial (they do it with disk D, you do it with disk C) and in step 4 make sure the first entry, the "unallocated space before" is set at 0 (so that the space for the new partition will be created after C and not before C, it's better but not critical). Don't do step 5 yet as we have another thing to do.
Now that you have some amount of unallocated space, create a new partition with this tutorial.

When you finally click on "Apply", it will pop up a window saying that it needs to reboot to perform what you asked. It is normal, click yes/ok if you are ready.
It will reboot (turn off and then turn on again) the computer, but instead of showing Windows 7 logo you will see a black screen with a window like this in the middle.
It will give you 10 seconds or so to abort the operation by pressing any key, if you leave it alone it will begin doing its job (if you want it to work, don't press any key).
Depending on how full and big was that drive, it will need from 30 mins to an hour or more. Don't turn it off, and don't do anything with the PC while this is running.
After it has finished, it will shutdown.
The next time you turn it on the same screen will appear saying "all operations executed sucessfully", then it will reboot itself one more time and you will finally see windows 7 logo again and it's back normal.

As per experts we should not do partition the C drive which has unmovable files when windows is running however if i do with EaseUS partition it will affect the system?
It should not do any harm, if done correctly and the computer isn't turned off while the program is running.

Remote does not work when you are on the bootable CD or flash program. But you could solve the problem with Disk Management. That is a bit more complex, but can be done. You would need an external disk for that and we would need a picture of the Disk Management in your sister's machine to give you detailed guidance.
