I'm not sure if its normal or a software/hardware/driver conflict because I always receive new updates for Windows defender either 2 days - 3 days or a day.

Perfectly normal - they are the AV and anti-malware definitions, the same as with any other Anti-Virus. There's usually at least two updates released every day - so don't be surprised by that, either.

I would 2nd that. My friend thought they only did it on tuesdays and I had some old memory of hearing that. Then I got this PC and I do a manual update of defender everytime i turn on the computer, and was surprised to find out that yeah, at least twice a day I was getting new defender update.

Security and Important updates are normally released on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
Optional and 'recommended' updates are released on the 4th Tuesday.
Both are 'Seattle time' - around 10 a.m. - so I work on the basis of the Wednesday following (being in the UK) for checking/forcing such updates.

MSE has its own schedule, and checks around every 4 hours for updates, and will get around to installing them when it needs to - there is a setting to install updates prior to scans.

MSEssentials every 4 hours,

Security dates 2nd tuesday of month,

Optional MS updates 4th tuesday,

And on every 5th year--- aka on the 7th day --MS created creates a new OS--

I love W7...and I had Virtual XP on my Mac for years.

Is there a way to automatically select the update downloads? There are certain ones that are undesirable such as Bing and Siverlight.

Bing is an Optional update - therefore has to be picked deliberately, whatever the other settings.

You can Hide updates you don't want, and don't want to be offered again.
Unfortunately, the "Hide Bing updates" settings often gets reset, so they show up again later and you have to re-Hide them again, and again, ...
There are many complaints about this "Hide Bing Update" not keeping the Hide setting on the web.

If you're using Windows Defender (or MSE) and don't want "daily" update notifications, you can set up a scheduled task to update the definitions.
