Hi,

I understand that a password reset disk will not reset a domain password - only a local user...

However - I forgot to create the disk before joining the domain and I no longer have an option to create one (even for the local user account).

Is there any way of creating one without leaving and rejoining the domain? If i do that - it starts playing about with domain (2) etc and i dont want that.

I am on Windows 7 Ultimate (x64)

Server 2008 domain joined.

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

Log on as a domain administrator and re-set the local account password from there. If you're on a domain and have access to Active Directory then a local password on a machine shouldnt matter.

dave is right if you join the domain you can set the p/w to what you want it to be on a/d or you can log on to machine as local admin and set it that way.

ahh i see...

my main worry was - i use this domain for years - and completlly forget the username / password for the local user.

so i would end up leaving the domain one day - and then cant log in.

But from what your saying - i just have to remember to reset the local user account password BEFORE leaving the domain - and it will be a non-issue.

I think thats right?

is it a local account or an account on the domain? if on domain you can set p/w to what you want it to be in active directory if its local can you get on the machine with another account? if not log on with the domain account and set the p/w on the local account.

Hello,

Yes just reset the local administrator password prior to leaving the domain. Just remember to test the local login befor you leave site (So you can re-join the domain if needed).
