Is it possible to re-create older version of a picture (.png) ?

Hello

A while a go a made a picture and saved it on my harddrive. The next day i made som minor adjustments and saved it again (so it has now two dates in the file info, (‎4. ‎april ‎2013, ‏‎22:00:01) for the day the file got created and (5. apil 2013, 12:00:07) the day the changes were made).

I then transfered the .png file to another harddrive.

My question is now:

Is it possible to take the copied file on the 2nd harddrive and then recreate the file to the first version (‎4. ‎april ‎2013, ‏‎22:00:01). Or are the changes in the file/picture PERMANENT and cannot be undone?

Note:

I'm aware that if you right click and look in properties there is an option that says something like "recover to earlier time/version" (my windows is in danish). There is no dates located in that option.

But i was wondering if there is some kind of advanced tool or "hacking" method, that can turn the file into it's first version?

As Kaktussoft said: NO.

Recent versions of Windows maintain previous versions of files (within limits) but only on the original computer. This is done by making periodic backups of these files. They may or may not exist in your case. But when the file is copied to another computer these previous versions are left behind. The data for previous versions of the file do not exist in it's present location. No hacking tool, no matter how advanced, can create data that does not exist.

If you wish to keep previous versions of files you need to maintain your own backups. There is no substitute. In fact if you wish to keep current versions you need to maintain backups. There are many ways that files and be lost and you need to be prepared when (not if) something happens. Do not rely on recovery tools to restore your data. You will be sorry.

I trust what you're saying is legit and correct. I was just curious, and it may be a little non-important thing for some people, but for me it means a lot that the changes are permanent at the file is and forever will be as it is now.

The way to combat this surely is when you edit the picture just save it in a different name. You will then have two samples of the same picture , one original and one edited. You can keep doing this as many times as you wish. When you are finally satisfied with one version just delete the unwanted copies!
