Hi guys,
I would like to know if my computer is 64 bit compatible. I have done my side of the research on the internet but i am getting mixed results. Here is what i have seen.

When i check out the performance maintenance, it says " Yes " under 64-bit capable.

But when i checked out the registry it showed differently,
x86.png

And in addition to that , i also checked msinfo32.exe and the result was this ,
x86_2.png

All this has made it very confusing, i do not know if my system is capable to run windows 7 64 bit or not.

So just to be sure if my processor supported the feature , i googled "intel i3-530" and intels website said my processor is 64 bit compatible. If this is the case then why are the registry and msinfo32.exe showing differently ?

Thanks in advance.

When running a 32 bit OS an x64 CPU is identified as x86 because in a very real sense that is what it is. Such a CPU can run in 2 modes, the native 64 bit mode or 32 bit legacy mode. The latter is necessary to run a 32 bit OS. A 64 bit CPU running in it's native mode is an alien CPU that cannot be used by a 32 bit OS or applications. Only when the CPU is running a 64 bit OS is it's true identity revealed. When running a 32 bit OS special techniques are necessary to determine if the CPU is 64 bit capable. That is what the system dialog is using.

The only component responsible of 32 or 64-bit limitation is the processor. If you google the processor's name and get to the manufacturer's specsheet, here is the one for your processor, you will see if it is 64-bit capable. Yours is 64-bit.
