Recently been having problems with Windows 10 and reverted back to Windows 7. However, now starting to suspect that my desktop PC is actually struggling due to its age.

It is 8 years old and I have upgraded the ram to 8 Gb and installed a new SSD drive of 2 Tb. In addition I have three other internal drives.

Most of my usage is photo editing using a variety of software but they all seem to struggle. Support from editing software companies tell me my programmes are configured OK.

Attached are some details from my system and I would value your ideas. I am not averse to replacing the whole kit as I have multiple backups of everything so am confident I will not lose anything of importance.

For instance one of the latest niggles is that typing anything there is a lag of characters on screen another is that I have to click on apps 3 or 4 times to get a response.

Thanks folks.

Hi FrankFitz,

For instance one of the latest niggles is that typing anything there is a lag of characters on screen another is that I have to click on apps 3 or 4 times to get a response.

Some questions!

[1] Have you looked in Task Manager > Processes to see what is running when the lapse occures?
[2] Have you installed any new hardware, software or updates prior to this happening?
[3] Have you got WU set to automatic or manual?
[4] Could it be something getting loaded at startup that is causing the problem?
[5] If the other three HDD's aren't SSD's, have you defragmented them recently?

Also, from what you said in your post you are running a total of four HDD's. This will have an effect on your processors resources!

I hope this helps!

You said you were having problems with Windows 10 and reverted back to Windows 7.
How did you reverted to Win 7?
Hope you did a clean install or restored a win 7 disk image.

Re installed Win 7 using CD I purchased.

Can I ask what is WU?

The hardware I changed was the power supply unit and the fan. Also changed keyboard and mouse to new wireless type as the one I had was pretty old.

I have now disconnected three of the internal drives to see if that helps.

I did a check of what was running and discovered four copies of Google chrome running at the same time which I have now stopped. I am still having to click 3 or 4 times to get a reaction at times.

WU= Windows update.
Open windows update page and manually do a "search for updates"
Does it run forever?

Don't understand why people love Chrome. It loads on startup and spy everything you do, even when you're not using it.
Fix apps hanging-culprit Chrome
