Is my motherboard showing near-to-death symptoms?

I've noticed this yesterday. My PC will not boot past the BIOS splash screen (My motherboard is MSI MS-7525 and therefore is OEM and not supported by MSI.) Is the motherboard going to die? I'm thinking of getting any G31 Motherboards (Too lazy to install drivers) and I need an upgrade to Core 2 Quad.

No, given the limited description it sounds more like a hard drive problem or a corrupted OS.

When you start a PC the motherboard runs two tests: the POST and then discovering and naming devices, the most important device being a hard drive with a bootable partition to hand off to.

If the BIOS finds a bootable partition it hands off controll to the boot loader and that is it.
If the BIOS can't find a bootable drive or partition then it displays a message saying so.

A test: see if you can get into the BIOS settings. If all looks normal in there then there is probably nothing wrong with the motherboard.

Use the one time boot key during post, does it give you the list ?

Can you chose the hard drive ? What happens next ?

It displays all of the devices connected, including my USB Drive (I use ReadyBoost) but after that it will just freeze in there

Try this:
Disconnect all hard drives, optical drives, and all USB connected devices - except keyboard and mouse.

Then boot and see if you get a "No operating system found" or " no bootable device" message.

After noting that result, then connect one bootable device and try it again.

Let us know the results of both.

Hmm the problem seems to be gone now.

Thanks to everyone. If this happens again then I'll go buy a new motherboard

It was most likely the usb drive.
