Is PC gaming Being Done Away With?

I hardly play any games other than shooters and strategy games, and they are great to play with keyboard and mouse.

Aren't 75% of popular games shooters or strategy games?

I won't pay the full release price for a game, but wait for it to be on sale/released on budget, or buy it second-hand.

And under NO circumstances will I buy a game that needs an internet connection to either register OR play.

Nor one that I have to download in order to play. Not gonna happen. My bandwidth is very limited.

I want physical disks.

Mainly play shooters, adventures and driving sims.

well, would be interesting to know what were you buying before you started torrenting. 2-3 disks (games) per week is an awful lot of cash if they are new games (50 euro/60 bucks per game in a month is 400 euro or 480 bucks). Also I doubt there are so much new games released in a so short timescale, and I don't see the point for buying so much as you don't have the physical time to finish a game unless you are a fat kid (i.e. still at school) without friends (i.e. most afternoons and all weekends are 100% time for PC games).

If they weren't new games, then it was irrelevant.

I would say that Stores are blanked out more due to Online Stores and not Torrents... if you want to buy the game, the last thing you want is to pay for a pirated game, that's just silly! :D

Stores like Steam and even direct sales are the ones doing away with stores like Best Buy or Brick and Mortar... if that is what you are getting at.

Plus i wasn't just taking about games i was talking about movies too . . .
Movies have the same issues as FPS games. More often than not, they are so ridiculously "commercial" that they suck. I mean, Battleship? Fun, and better than most, but are you really going to pay 15 euros for the DVD on top of the 10 you payed at the multiplex?

Music is another matter though. Quite a few famous artists here said that they are actually making more money now than before this evulz piracy, as they do much more live events that are not piratable AND where the profit margin of the artist is ludicrously higher than by selling disks (where most of the profit goes to the music industry, not the artist).

If i want a retail copy i usually go to Target, they usually have a decent collection of pc games, well in my area they do.
Here the Target-like stores stopped stocking PC games years ago, the same goes for most consumer-electronics stores. There is some random stuff left in the bargain bin, but all that is stocked and sold is console stuff.
Only a few rare specialized shops do stock and sell PC games now.

I think a more accurate description of what is happening with PC gaming would be:

PC gaming: Enjoy your poorly ported console games, because you are the minority.

There are very few AAA titles being produced exclusively for the PC anymore. Purchasing a $700 desktop to play games that are available (and designed for) a ~$300 console makes no sense for the average consumer. Not to mention waiting up to a month for PC releases.

I firmly believe it has more to do with the finances of owning a PC exclusively for gaming (given that a decent number of consumers use a smartphones for basic tasks and have no need for a PC beyond a laptop).

Technically inclined consumers tend to use their PCs for things above and beyond email. ;)

My tower serves as a DVR, game center, media server and as a workhorse. (Not mention, lets see that PS3/360/Wii rock ~80FPS with max eye candy in Skyrim at 5760x1080 :D)

Its not really a matter of the console being worth 300 or 3000 is the fact that the technology is about 10 years old (if not more)... I think that is the biggest issue for me and the why I have not upgraded my rig.

This is also why it makes no sense for me why people purchase a video card worth 500 to 700 dollars for gaming... how exactly can they get the max out that card?

There are very few AAA titles being produced exclusively for the PC anymore.
As long as what you think are "AAA titles" are CoD clones, that's correct (also: strafing!).
Back serious, FPS games are much more appealing to the kind of people that buy consoles, so it's not that strange that FPS are more optimized for consoles (although quite a few manage to get buggy as heck even on consoles, something I didn't even think it was possible).

With a PC you can do so much more than CoD with better graphics. The more common games where you don't find a console equivalent would be real time strategy. Say Starcraft 2, or Age of Empires Online.

Quite a few RPG-FPS games were massively better on PC due to huge modding community, like Fallout 3 and 4. Or most of the X-series games from Egosoft (that fixed quite a few bugs within months of release)

And as far as development goes, I doubt titles like Planetary Annihilation would be published on consoles.

Also another is Kerbal space program. Which is kinda like Orbiter, but actually fun.

And one still evolving is Minecraft (yes it is published for Xbox 360 but it's a PC game ported to console not the other way around, also modding is a major selling point as there are some gorgeous mods for it that of course are PC-only)

The linked ones are all innovative in their genre, and all have devs that talk to userbase. Strangely neither comes from big companies.
And neither needs a 700$ card to be played (not even Planetary annihilation would need so huge graphics, as they seem to have spore-grade cartoonish stuff not ultra-realistic HD dust like your average FPS).

But since you think the only games worth playing are those where you can personally shoot at stuff, what about Day Z?
It's a mod for Arma 2 (so it is PC-only even if Arma 2 is on Consoles), but everyone that tried it said it's awesome. As it mainly requires smarts (like not making noise or zeds swarm you), strafing isn't instant-win and there is also player interaction (you don't know who you can trust and who you cannot).

Was discarded by previous owner due to "horrible performance".
Was running Win Xp from a IDE drive. Yeah. Was a pain.
SATA II drive and Win7 and it zips away! Yay!

Recent example of a poor console to PC port that wasn't CoD: Borderlands 2. Ok, so BL2 is primarily an FPS. There are others, I can not think of them at the moment, but will go home and take a look at my steam library, then get back to you!

Couldn't agree with you more here. More eye candy? Absolutely. User created content is a bonus as well.

Purchasing a $700 desktop to play games that are available (and designed for) a ~$300 console makes no sense for the average consumer.

Reread what I wrote. An average tower from Dell/HP runs about $700. Not the gfx card

But since you think the only games worth playing are those where you can personally shoot at stuff, what about Day Z?

Where did I say that? Did you even read what I wrote?! I am not a console gamer. FPS is not my genre either. Take a look at my system specs. Do you think I put that much power into a tower to play CoD? :D

I honestly don't understand why you felt the need to attack me. It seems like you read the first couple lines, then decided to write 5 paragraphs about how I'm a CoD console fanboi, who knows nothing about PC gaming.

It is good to see individuals that are as passionate about PC gaming as myself.

I am a PC gamer, always have been, always will be. They can have my KB&M when they pry it from my cold dead hands.

My tower serves as a DVR, game center, media server and as a workhorse. (Not mention, lets see that PS3/360/Wii rock ~80FPS with max eye candy in Skyrim at 5760x1080 :D)
