to set up a home network including 2 PCs (1 XP without RealTek sound drive + 1 ME) and 2 laptops (1 vista + 1 W7) + 1 faxprinter + 1 scanner), 2 broadband routers and 2 RJ45 network cables. will USB bridge cables do the job? how many if so?do I need a multiport hub? with extension Cable Expansion Splitter?
and what more things shall I get? do I need a crosstalk audio driver or an AC adaptor for the hub?:)

Hi pancras and Welcome to Seven Forums,

I am a little confused with this: '2 broadband routers', perhaps you meant 2 wireless routers or 2 different broadband providers? In my assumption according from your description, and the number of the devices in your network you will only need one broadband provider. Also, If I am correct with my assumption, you may extend your network and connect an additional router into your existing one. By doing this procedure you will convert the second router as an AP(Access Points) or a switch.

Also, you have mentioned these 3 things: PcLin-Q, Hub and splitter.
I wouldn't use any of those, they are all outdated(obsolete). PcLin-Q is now file sharing in Workgroup, Hub and splitter is now Network Switch.

Please confirm and let us know what exactly you are trying to accomplish then we can give you a detail procedure on how a proper networking can be done. :)

I think that there are 2 important tasks that need to be accomplished here:
Connect the second router to your existing one and convert to a network Switch and I have a Tutorial for you to follow.

The next task that you will need to do is called Workgroup to share all your Files, Printer and other Network devices, I also have a Tutorial for this.

Oh... and for the sound driver issue, you can download it from your computer's manufacturer site.

Please give us an update.

A belated thanks for your care! Your tutorials says it works for Windows business system. Mines are exclusively home versions with SIEMENS Gigaset 4-port SE587 WLAN dsl 10/100 mbps R/11 G992.51 2007 routers all obsolete as compared to the N router 100/1000 mbps required in the tutorial. And shall I get a network switch?
By the way let me know the latest bridge cables so as to get round the abominable Windows systems?
I will try but I wonder if it'll do? Any other better options?
All the best,
John

John.....The tutorial does give you an idea to setup your home network although all the O/S are business editions. You may get a Switch if you have a few wired devices to connect to your Siemen's LAN Port, no need for the Gig Switch, it's only optional.

See if you can follow this Tutorial from Microsoft using different version of Windows Operating Systems.
