While I was transferring a little program (Windows VU Meter) I started looking at the properties of the little icon on the toolbar at the bottom of the Desktop. The convoluted steps and path used to start the program was strangely fascinating:
Windows VU Meter Properties
General
Type of file: Shortcut (.lnk)
Description: Windows VU Meter
Location: C:\Users\Fred\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
Shortcut
Targettype: Application
Targetlocation: Debug
Target: "I:\F Programs\VU Meter\VU Meter\bin\Debug\VU Meter.exe"
Startin: "I:\F Programs\VU Meter\VU Meter\bin\Debug"
I wondered if there was something wrong, so I looked up Quick Launch. It turns out that this part of Windows was designed this way. What made me scratch my head was the detour through Internet Explorer. I don't understand; but, Microsoft must of had some reason. From Guided Help: Enable the Quick Launch bar in Windows 7 I found:
2. In the dialog box, copy and then paste the following folder name to the Folder box, and then click Select Folder:
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
I'm not concerned about it. I think that some elements of programing are the results of evolution rather than design. Some of you might find this amusing...
