Is there a opition during Windows 7 installation you can back up file?

I know when I launched Windows 8 Installation , It give me an option to back-up all my files from Windows 7. Now if I install windows 7 is there that same kind of option in the setup ? I need to Install Windows 7 on a friends Laptop and they want there stuff backed-up. Please let me know.

put disc in and boot from it
when you get to setup screen click repair computer and I believe there is the option to back up ther if memory serves me correctly

Once it backs up , will the files on Windows Vista be stored on Windows 7, remember I don't want to lose any important file.

Why not use windows vista backup tool first before trying to install - I know thats what I would do

If you do an upgrade reinstall from within Windows Vista it should make a folder inside the C:\ drive calles Windows.old it should have all of the users data .

If you want to do a clean install ( which is a better way of inputting a different OS version ) boot off the windows 7 disc . On the Install Window click on Repair your computer click on the Windows 7 and click on Next. On the System Recovery option screen

Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool

Command Prompt

Choose Command Prompt . On the command prompt type

notepad.exe

Inside Notepad . Click File Open and copy the things needed

   Note

You would need an external hard drive or a big enough USB Flash Drive to safe data . Can't back up programs that would have to be reinstalled

So In This case I have Windows 7 , I am going to do an upgrade, Just to make things clear again I won't lose any important data right?

Not if you install Windows 7 from Within the Windows Vista and choose Upgrade

Question : Why do you want to do an upgrade instead of a clean install ? You could backup the important data to an external device then install Windows . It's a much cleaner solution . Any issues you had in Vista will come to Windows 7 .

No you need to use a Windows 7 disc . Is the Windows 7 disc an Upgrade version or an Full version ? It should say Upgrade on the DvD case in yellow font top left corner .

:info: Don't think you could do an upgrade from a Full Edition Windows 7 . But I will check that out . YES you can upgrade using a full version of Windows 7

You need to back up the data first by sorting it into the User folders and dragging them to external or another HD, DVD or flash stick.

Then boot the installer to Clean Install Windows 7 deleting all partitions in Steps 6/7 to create new one(s) as you wish to format, install Win7 to first one.
