In Windows XP I had the "My Computer" icon in the quick launch toolbar directly to the right of the start menu button.

Now, I've managed to figure out how to "pin" the "Computer" icon into the same spot for Windows 7... but here's what I'm wondering.

In XP when you opened a window with tha "My Computer" click... and then let's say you went to some random location, maybe C:files/blah for instance...

... if you then re-clicked the "My Computer" icon, it would open a brand new window that started you at the "My Computer" menu again...

With Windows 7 though, it just re-opens that same window no matter where you are... kind of defeating the purpose of even clicking it.

Is there someway to make it so clicking the "Computer" icon opens a new window each time?

Hello Caithness, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You would need to drag the Computer icon to have it to the left of the Explorer icon on the taskbar before it will open new Computer windows each time you click on the Computer icon.

Thanks for the response Shawn. I removed the Explorer icon from the quick launch menu... the only thing there is the Computer icon and it does not open a new window each time I click it.

Yeah, the Explorer icon is required to be to the left of it to work that way.

You can pin the "Windows Explorer" shortcut in Start Menu - All Programs - Accessories to the taskbar to get it back.

Try holding down the "shift" key and clicking it. I know doing this opens a new window for Libraries, IE and other windows 7 taskbar icons.

Right click on the icon on the taskbar and you will be presented with the jump list - the jump list contains a list of your most recent folder locations plus a windows explorer entry any of these may be pinned to the list - if you have 4 or 5 regular starting points these can be always available in addition to those that you have been using recently.

This also works by left click and drag upwards - with a little practice it becomes a simple matter to open any pined or recent folder
