Is there another program similiar to Malware Byte - Norton scan error

Dear Forum,

My great investment in a subscription to Norton - three years - they recently did an upgrade on their software and now after four hours - removing various items from my registry and also several SFC scans - my computer is running relatively smoothly - all except Windows Explorer.

Anyway I really preferred the option of MalwareBytes and the full scan and options. But apparently the kind person from Norton informed me that they have better software for scans.

Other than throwing my lap top out the window - has anyone come across any other programs that are Windows safe that do similar?

I was quite surprised that CC Cleaner was not booted off too by the program.

I also have uninstalled a few programs whilst waiting. Back to basics for me.

My brain surgery did not work so well. So stuck in hospital - the nurses just hear me cursing about all the stuff that happens to me.

I prefer ditch Norton use MSE for antivirus and malwarebytes for on demand Trojan etc scanning

If l worked for Norton, l'd possibly say the same thing.

Avast is just as good as Norton and it's free! Malwarebytes is one of the best programs and it's free! CCleaner is one of the best programs and it's free!
If you don't believe any of that then you just stick with Norton and pay whatever they want you to pay.

What is wrong with your Windows (file) Explorer?

There are a few programs like Malwarebytes, but the folks at Norton would probably tell you the same thing about them. Malwarebytes should not conflict with Norton. If it does, then Norton has a problem... they will be getting lots of calls since Malwarebytes is very popular. But for now, let's leave programs like Malwarebytes off of your computer and let's concentrate on the problems that you are having with your Windows (file) Explorer.

Malwarebytes now with N360 will conflict with the updated software. Believe me I tried everything.

I dislike them immensely - there customer service is a little to be desired. I think that many, many people will be calling, emailing and knocking at their door. I could not believe it. I asked them to confirm it. They said that N360 will do the same job. That I had to remove the program as it would continue to conflict and come up with the same error. I had to turn off and on my computer seven times - escalated my error to a team leader - then they installed non optional Windows updates.

Total crap. Believe me - I am over it.

My windows explorer keeps crashing. It happened ever since I had the support guys from Norton on it. If it continues - then I will let them know.
I must have a bad attitude - but they logged themselves off my computer so I could not ask imperative questions on why they had to uninstall that program. Error came up four times - had to quote it several times - off my head 3039.

I will perhaps ask for a refund. Not happy.

Should I run a defrag - I am unsure on how to troubleshoot when your computer is running slower than usual and getting messages that the search function is using a lot of CPU.

I am only now operating three IE10 windows - which I dislike the new set up - but heck that is change for you

I am also transferring as much as possible to a hard drive.

And yes again I got my back up deleted - the customer service guy uninstalled the software and my files - I am one happy person at the moment

A recent updated to various Norton 2013 products are flagging MB as incompatible. Lots of complaints on both forums. MB is contacting Norton to see what the issue is. Here is a statement from MB forum.

I don't know what to tell you.
My first thought is to let them try and fix the explorer crash thing, but they could just make things worse.

I would...
...ask for a refund
...do a clean install of the operating system
But that is just me.

Thanks - just googled it myself - my goodness - bet that is my luck.

First - called Melissa - my emails were quarantined at work when there was the Melissa Virus - great stuff.

Thanks forum - will try the others in the meantime - looks like most Norton customers do not fully trust the capabilities of the product.

I appreciate the time taken to look at my question. I just do not want any viruses in the meantime.

I may start my own thread on Norton's site to add to the many thousands

Melissa, let's see what VEW (an event viewer app) might show as an explanation for your problems...

Please download VEW by Vino Rosso http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your desktop
Running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right click the file and select Run as administrator and click Continue or Allow at the User Account Control Prompt.

1. Click the check boxes next to Application and System located under Select log to query on the upper left

2. Under Select type to list on the right click the boxes next to Error and Warning Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 also click the box next to Critical (not XP).

3. Under Number or date of events select Number of events and type 20 in the box next to 1 to 20 and click Run

It will look like it's not doing anything, so leave it alone!
Once it finishes it will display a log file in notepad.
Please copy and paste its entire contents into your next reply

I think it also advised that you should not have any USB or External HDD while you run this - can you please clarify?

It will not hurt to have a USB or external hard drive attached while you run the app Jacee requested.

They are not similar.

VEW (by Vino Ross) just gathers some info from the Windows Event logs.

This way, Jacee might be able to find out what is taking down the Windows (file) Explorer.

If you feel up to it, follow this link back to Jacee's earlier post:

Then slowly follow the steps. Don't worry, even if you mess up on following the instructions, you are not going to hurt anything with VEW.

If you don't feel up to it, then you can wait for a better day, or just re-install the OS. However, it would be nice to know a bit more as to why explorer is crashing.
