Is There Any Hope?

Well, I'm stuck with a hard drive that has failed. It is a micro Sata drive 1.8" and I would normally just replace the hard drive, but the price seems expensive just for 60gb+. Well anyways. The problem with the drive is that, after doing a scan with Victoria. S.M.A.R.T shows the drive health as 0 and only the first 3.4gb of the drive is readable. After that everything was marked as a bad sector from LBA about 246,000.

I'm just wondering, if this drive is a no go, or if some one knows any tips, techniques or anything to repair the drive. I can't seem to figure how the disk surface could have become so damaged. Formatting doesn't work. The drive has remapped all the bad sectors that it could and used all the available sectors it had. :s

Sounds like the drive is history to me. Time to start shopping for a new one...

have you tried Hitachi Drive Fitness Test? also if running a scan dont have a partion have it unallocated and run it

will give a full drive check i have found it very efficient in seeing a drive with any faults

it does sound like the drive has or is about to fail.

The drive isn't partitioned, smart shows that the reallocated sectors as -49/-49 which seems very suspicious to me. all scans I done show that after 3.4gb or so marks all sectors as bad after that. :s

I have managed to get the drive to work, by starting the partition after the the part of the drive that had bad sectors, and it is working for now. How long it will last I don't know. I lost 50gb of space this way though.

eak that fact u lost your data isnt good, but that above tool will tell u if there any faults with the drive, u take the time to run it.

If the HDD is failing SMART, save all the data you can externally NOW. You will most likely need a new drive soon.

i will also look at this for my own interest, but in many years the best thing i have found is hitachi drive test. a true drive tester. also i am not sure, but he didnt say it failed it came up as 0. need poster to confirm. (and victoria is in your above link)

also it does say it is a " low-level HDD diagnostics" not wanting to dam your post, but it does what it says on the tin. - no harm intended

No problem rich. Awhile back I had a Seagate drive which SMART said was malfunctioning. I ran the Sea Tools software and it fixed it. Only works for Seagate though.

yeah i have a few segate HDD's the diag anit to bad. used it a few times, wish there was more info after diag on the HDD's though.
