.....specifically might have been provided (before discontinuance of support) which maintains the ability of song information (title, artist, date) to appear on data disks compiled with a non-MS burning platform (specifically, Infrarecorder; can't use WMA for such purposes, and reasons Microsoft couldn't ever determine through extended conversations, remote desktop diagnostics I had with them) during playback - haven't been for about a month now; just random letters & digits - such as a Sony car stereo unit? Associated problems began to arise as a direct result OF updating Windows programs some time ago, and not been doing so since (though this is a relatively new development).....thanks, much appreciate whatever assistance and / or insight can be lent!

Hi Hamish62-

Normally, one would need to burn an Audio CD using software, and a burner, which supports CD Text to get that information on the disc.

Appreciate your replying, but - am compiling collections......

.....close to 10 times the size of an audio disk, entire artist catalogues in some instances - already have at least 50 done, most doubled, and backed up on flash drives / my PC.....

I realize that your projects may be bigger than an audio CD but I'm just passing on the normal requirements. Do you have a burner that's CD Text enabled.

I'm not certain - how would I be able to tell? Can certainly edit / custom format files easily enough - just no longer reflected by the car stereo LED.....are there any particular indicators of as much in the model name / number, or within an MS registry?

Normally, a CD Text capable drive would have CD Text written on the front of it. What is your model number?

I wanted the model number for your optical drive. You can get it by going to Control Panel, Device Manager, DVD.............drives.

Oh, OK - that was what I was alluding to in a previous reply - it's: TSSTcorp DVD + RW 'TS-H653J' ATA device; disc drive:

'WDC2500AAJS-75M0A0' ATA device in Device Manager Hardware 'Properties' tab

I can't find anything definitive but, from what I've looked at, it appears that your optical drive doesn't support cd text.

The second drive you mention is your hard drive.

Which is what I thought (your second explanation) - so, am I to conclude then that MS was previously providing CD Text capability, but have now discontinued it as part of their abandoning support for 7, or something else? Does Infrarecorder have a setting to make sure it's included? Looking at this site's overview, doesn't seem so dissimilar to its platform.....

How to Add/update CD-Text on Audio CD: 10 Steps

.....so, would I then somehow use 'IMGBURN' with Infrarecorder, or in place of it?

Microsoft has nothing to do with CD text. CD Text is part of the specification for an audio CD. The capability is included in the "firmware" (not a driver) of the optical drive. The software you use to create the disc would have an option for using it.

I had seen that article you linked to and was going to suggest it as a possibility but wanted to get through the CD Text issue first. Since it's burning an image, I guess you don't need CD Text capability on your optical drive. I don't know what the capabilities of Infrarecorder are so I would use Imgburn alone. I don't know if the free version will work.

.....if that's true - that MS has nothing to do with formatting capabilities - then I sure can't figure out what the problem might be; like I said previously, wasn't any with Infrarecorder up until about a month ago; I'd suspect more strongly that it's my not-new car stereo deck continuing to slowly fail but, then why would older data disks being played, display song / artist info? Was able to determine a couple of things yesterday, though: number not appearing but, appears there's a space between each letter in titles, names and release / charting dates.....

You were burning a data disc which displayed artist, title, etc.?

Yes - in relatively chronological order (whereby formatting becomes necessary with data disks.....)

Just to be clear, you could read the artist, title, etc. during playback on a device separate from your computer, such as in the car?

I just downloaded Infrarecorder and the only place I could find where it would let one choose the artist and title fields was for an audio CD.

This is from the help file-

This secion allows you to create CD-Text information. CD-Text is a format supported by some (many?) CD-players that allows track and artist information to be displayed when the CD is playing. These options are available in audio and mixed-mode projects.

Hmmmm - well, that would suggest that there was some way MS did allow for the info to appear until a month ago, then - and whether 'audio CD' also includes data disks with that type and Infrarecorder, remains to be determined.....
