A friend told me that I can delete the host files and get some of my bandwith. Is this true? Would windows eat some of my bandwith? (regardless if its the Host Files or not,) ofcourse winupdate is excluded in this question... If so, what steps should I take to maximize my connection?

Host file entries do not use any 'bandwidth', they redirect your computer back to its home address. So,...if you have www.facebook.com and type that in your browser, it comes back as 'Cannot Display Page' in your browser, and any image on a webpage will show same..
