Norton Power Eraser Tool found this driver RIKVM_9EC60124.sys on my system.

Is this a legitimate driver? Or is this an unknown virus?

Thank you in advance for all replies!

Google will tell you thats a wifi driver and norton pe always has an issue with it. In any case, dont use power eraser as an AV, its supposed to be a rescue tool only, it has a very aggressive detection algo that might flag legit files.

I understand I cannot use PE alone.

What is strange is the file does not exist when I try to locate it.
There seems to be limited information on the internet on this file.
Is it for certain that it is not a boot virus or trojan or rootkit?
Is it really Intel WiFi driver?

I just wish to establish that it is a legitimate driver so that I do not have to take other actions to remove it, in case it turns out to be a malware.

Appreciate if someone can help out! Thanks!

I have came across this Symantec post too. However, Symantec support does not say more on this file.

I have recently formated my computer as there could a possible malware. Hence I wish to make sure this driver file is not a malware so that I can safely proceed with rest of installation, instead of reformating again.

I dont know about you but I believe what my AV and MBAM say. So run a scan with both of those and let them clean whatever they want to. You can also run free online/downloadable scans with other malware cleaners till you are convinced. If you can locate that file (the norton thread I linked has something on that), you can submit it to Threatexpert or Virustotal as already explained in that link.

If you're still not convinced, reformat.
