Is this my speed?

I have an i5 750 (2.66ghz) and have done zero bio tweaking in order to OC. I ran CPU-Z today and noticed it said my core speed was 30xx.xx MHz. Does that mean I am running at 3.0 GHz? Screen Shot provided.

Thank you,

Zach

By default, the i5 750 is 2.67GHz. However, what you're looking at is Turbo Boost. If all 4 cores are running, then the cpu(s) will run at 2.67GHz. If only 1 core is needed by an application, it will run at 3.2GHz. If 2 or 3 cores are needed, it will run anywhere between 2.8-3.2GHz.

Thank you very much. I ran IntelBurnTest and right when it loaded the cores, it went straight to 2.66. Can't wait to overclock it to 3.8 or even 4.0. I will prob. use the V10 from cooler master or go water cooled.

Thanks again!

If you OC this CPU, you will have to disable the Turbo Boost. I wonder whether that is not partially counterproductive. And you definitely get a lot more heat.

When 4 cores are in use, it still raises the multiplier by 1, yielding a 2.8ghz. Other than that, everything you said is correct.

You can overclock with Turbo on (as I have), but the maximum multiplier that will be stable at full overclock is 160 - 165. If you want a full time overclock for gaming, you will want to turn off turbo and play with voltages. Here are some links you will like:

i5 is a great overclocker, relatively common to get to 4.2GHz stable if you have good airflow and cooling. V10 you'll need a big case, and low profile Ram. Have fun. A Guy

I'm overclocked to 3.8ghz now, I ran Prime95 for 9 hours with no errors. I am using the Corsair H50, nice, quite and cheap.
I also got the new corsair 800D. I'm in love!

I also use OCCT (Over Clock Checking Tool), runs a little harder than Prime 95, keeps nice logs. I recommend it.

I think it can because I tried running it and it scored about 10C more than Prime95.... and I'm running on Intel stock HSF lol.
