Hey guys,

I've been wondering if the CPU usage on my netbook is normal for my kind of netbook. My netbook is windows starter edition 10.1'', N450 intel atom, 1 gb ram,160 gb memory and 3 cell battery. Also, when I go to youtube when i watch a 10 minute video, after a while it says high CPU usage. Is this normal or is their something bad running in the background?:sarc:

Thank You !

The windows 7 Basic (non-aero) interface is all put on the CPU, most likely resulting to the high CPU usage. When Aero is enabled (which is not available in the starter edition) all the stress of the interface is put on the GPU, giving more breathing room for the CPU, but that is only my thoughts.
As StalkeR said, Screen-Shot the task-manager list in the "Processes" tab of the Task Manager interface.

Well, task manager isn't showing much, but that's not entirely surprising. It would perhaps be better if you dumped out and posted the following bits of information, when the problems are actually occurring.

For the CPU issue:
tasklist /V > "%userprofile%\desktop\tasklist.txt"
This should create a file called "tasklist.txt" on your desktop - please upload that.

For memory usage issues, take a screenshot of a maximized resmon.exe window at the "Memory" tab and upload that screenshot.

I see nothing wrong here. CPU needs to be used to do processing. You are not going to get away with not using the CPU when processing. And watching videos on Yuotube will and does require significant CPU time. A CPU is designed to run at 100%, nothing is wrong if the CPU is running at 100% when you are running tasks, like watching a video.

I didn't know that. And I am quite interested to know why is this the course, wouldn't running the AERO theme have that more of a effect then the basic theme?

No - Aero runs directly on the GPU, which is much more capable of handling the video code than the main CPU (given the GPU is designed to handle this task specifically, and the CPU is not). Using Aero offloads the code processing for most of the UI elements in Windows to the video card, freeing up the CPU to do other things. So while it isn't entirely obvious why turning on all the video bells and whistles - aka Aero - is actually better for Windows, once you understand how it works, it then does make sense.

Exactly, having aero enabled puts everything on the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and frees up your processor for use on other things since the code for the basic theme is not being put on the processor.
But aero is not available in Starter and Home Basic, so if you want the eye-candy (and a faster netbook and willing to pay for Home Premium) athen you would need to do the anytime upgrade.
No Worries if you do the Anytime Upgrade too, all the files for every edition of Windows 7 is there, even though you have Starter, anytime upgrade just adds the files of the version you entered the product key for into your Windows folder.
