Is this safe to use

Very often one gets files that need another software to unpack them as in some of the dump files attachments and you get the window that says Windows can't open this file try online and I get this ref Windows File Association

It has Windows at the top but am not ready to use any of it unless someone can verify they are ok for me please.

What is the file extension of the software that you are using?

If it is .7z .ZIP .RAR .TAR .WIM then download 7-ZIP or another piece of archiving software and open the file in that.
Only open a file if you think it is safe or you run a virus scan first

Hmm I find the problem comes with clicking on find the right program to open it online and it comes up with all those non Microsoft softwares.

Windows has a command line tool, but you have to download the Debugging Tools

Use Dumpchk.exe to check a Memory Dump file

But .dmp files are a different animal. Those have to be read, rather then just extracted. For other file types, there are many tools available as noted. I know the BSOD team has recommended tools to use...beyond my simple mind
