Solved Is Win 7 smooth for work with 1.4 G Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 256M Video??
It is my laptop with XP for work. Very smooth with 500MB
RAM available even if Firefox, Acrobat, Word and Matlab
are all open.
I do not pursue fancy visual effects, but do want a smooth
work experience. Could you give me some input if you have
experience with Win 7 on such low-end computers?

As long as you have Aero is can be smooth.
