YES AND NO,
The key you have for W7, and for 8/8.1, (providing its genuine) WILL give you the update for free,
and is required to update to W10.
BUT you >>only<< have 30 Days to downgrade back to your original OS,(W7/8), if you dont like it.
Therefor after the 30 days "you will lose the key" and be permenantly on W10.
You do however have until 29 July >>2016<< to decide

As far as I know, if you make an image of your current Win 7, Win 8, or Win 8.1 installation with an imaging application such as Macrium or Aomei, you can go back to it indefinitely by restoring that image.

- All fans PWM; speeds at idle: CPU circa 500 rpm; intake circa 600 rpm; exhaust circa 600 rpm; CPU temps 27 idle and 47 C load in a warm room (27 C/81 F) when running Intel Extreme Tuning Utility stress test.
The only thing that is removed is the windows old folder which windows 10 would use to restore your prior install using 10 system restore,
You can use a reliable third party system images and recovery disk to restore your system back to before the 10 update as recommended
Otherwise you'll need to reinstall from the original installation media = disk
The activation key should still work but this whole process is untested
But it's always been stated by M$ a reinstall would be needed to go back to the prior install
So this would point to the key as unaffected.
