Is Windows 7 really worth it to fork out 134€ compared to Vista? Or should I just stay with my old operating system (Vista)? I just use the PC for the Net and e-mail and messenger.

depends on how your vista feels to you. win 7 is without a doubt better but they are built on the same foundation. win 7 is more stabile, faster, and has better battery life for laptops.

You have to decide if it is worth the money

I think it is

I'll assume by home you mean home premium (as basic wasn't entirely common on computers).

If you are happy with Windows Vista then you should stay with it, I personally recommend people should move to Windows 7, not only to have the latest, greatest, and prettiest, but to keep up with the times as well as have a more stable system.

:)

Is this home edition home basic or home premium?

I think Win7 is worth it, but if Vista works fine for you, stay with Vista.

18 months of flawless function with Vista HP 32 bit. Since 'upgrading' to 7, nothing but crashes and lockups. All the right drivers bios etc, etc. Will be moving back to Vista this weekend and hope the service pack or such like might improve things.

I am in love with Windows 7. It just 'feels' right. As someone mentioned up top, it is faster, more reliable, prettier, and more user friendly. I can't express how much I love it.

If you're in a position asking other people whether or not it's worth it, or don't have an aversion to the current OS you're using, then I think it's better to keep what you have and spend that money on something else, especially if all you do is surf and send emails.

Windows 7, though, is without a doubt my favorite OS, as I've always had problems/things I dislike about XP and Vista.

It kinda feels like when I got my supra..."just right" :D

I can't get Win7 to crash even on a old Toshiba satellite.

How old?

It's a A46-S150

P4 1gig RAM, 60gig HD. Runs amazing. I am actually freaked its running so well.

If your crashing you got something configured wrong, bad driver or bad hardware.

As for changing to Win 7 worth it?

HELL YA!!!!

Why pay that amount -- just buy the upgrade - there's enough detail on the Forum to show you how to install clean if required. Upgrades can be sourced for around 50 GBP / EUR (think the GBP is approx 1.09 EUR now - seems to change a lot every day).

If you source it from the UK FOR EXPORT and say its educational material you won't have to pay the UK 15% (17.5 % from Jan 1) VAT either.

I think Amazon UK have some available at around 49 GBP.

Having got the financials out of the way IMO the answer to the original question is DEFINITELY YES.

Cheers

If I do buy it what shall it be?

This might sound silly but should I download Windows 7 or should I buy the box set instead?

Buy the box, always nice to have physical media 'just in-case'.

from shynal

pretty much true. the time when i first loaded windows 7 in my laptop and next day it felt like i have a new laptop and iam conserving battery power running on 40 minutes more than vista business or xp. and the contents with the provisio networking capabilities are much more easier than vista. i relay agree on that.

yap it really feel like driving my celica out of factory.

It's worth it, but not for 134 Euro!

If you have Vista you already know what it's like. It's like that except with a few fixes here and there. If 134 Euro is the cheapest you can find it I would not get it.

If you could get it at a much lower price then yes, yes, yes! I think this is the fastest, cleanest, best, Windows to date. It's not perfect but it's very good.

Make sure you do a clean install. It makes everything feel so much better.

If I download Windows 7....?

If I download Windows 7 for portuguese Vista will it work because they direct me to the Store and they don't ask for the country in the billing address and it's in dollars and I don't know if it will work on my computer because it's a USA site.
