Hi, I am expecting my laptop soon, but wanted to know if windows 7 is taht much better than any other windows OS? I've seen a whole lot of positive and negative reviews.

I don't know if your laptop comes with Vista but either way, Windows 7 is going to run much better on a laptop. It depends on $$. For a $100 upgrade from Vista I think it would be worth the price. Vista is over. Windows 7 is so much better that it will kill Vista.

hi hp7Windows, and welcome to sevenforums,

7 is better than vista in many ways, but you would know that having read the reviews.

i've never seen a negative review yet, and would be interested to see one...

It is faster than Vista and easier in some areas. In terms of functions I have not seen a big difference yet. If you are used to Vista, you have to learn a little bit. If you are used to XP, you'll have to learn a lot.

Steve Balmer says it is Vista, but better.

That's about right.

Is it worth upgrading?

Depends - on my machine , Vista is just as fast and responsive as 7.

On an average laptop - 7 will likely be slicker and snappier.

If you can get it cheaply - that helps.

Thanks for the replies guys. Well, i had ordered a laptop before the release of windows 7, but I qualify for the free upgrade to windows 7 home premium, so I guess it will be alright. But im sure if i install it immidiately after activating my vista its almost like performing a clean install, or not? thanks. I ordered a laptop with vista home premium (with the upgrade), Core 2 duo P8700 2.53Ghz, 512mb 9600M Gt, 320gb 7200rpm HHD, 4gb RAM. U think it would work?
