Solved ISO download types

Having a reasonably fast internet connection, I have downloaded ISO's of Windows 7 HP 32 bit for a friend on a slow connection who wants to change from 64 bit. I have downloaded two copies from different sites, either of which will do but they have different part numbers and are different sizes. X17-24208 is 2563039232 bytes and the other is X17-59463 at 2564476928 bytes. What is the difference?

X17-24208 = Windows 7 Home Premium x86 SP1 (old)

X17-59463 = Windows 7 Ultimate x86 SP1 U (media refresh)

You'll need to download an official Windows 7 Home Premium x86 SP1 U (media refresh) X17-58996.iso version for 32-bit from the link above for his HP edition.

Tinmar49, I do not recommend downloading any Windows .iso's from non-Microsoft sites or you sometimes can download from the OEM site for your computer. Some have been known to include goodies (baddies) that you might not like.

What are the sites that you downloaded the Windows 7 x32 from?

From that page:

X17-24208.iso: Windows 7 Home Premium x86 SP1 (old)
X17-59463.iso: Windows 7 Ultimate x86 SP1 U (media refresh)​

One is Home Premium and the other is Ultimate - you have to match the version to what is licensed - look at the COA sticker on the bottom of the machine or in the battery compartment. When you figure out what is licensed, then you'll want to download the SP1 U (media refresh) ISO for that version and langauge - it has more Windows Updates included.

Why would your friend want to degrade their system?

Why downgrade from 64 to 32? Beats me.

If the OP is certain they want the 32 bit version then:
X17-58996.iso: Windows 7 Home Premium x86 SP1 U (media refresh)

is what they should download.

The best reason for downgrading is if the memory is limited
The only other reason I can think of is to be able to run one of the few programs that won't run in 64-bit (ACAD 20?? springs to mind)

Thanks everyone, firstly, my friends old laptop is limited to 2gb ram and I had advised him to get 32 bit 7. He got a better deal with a 64 bit disc and didn't think it would matter. The poor thing is not happy and a change to 32 bit is its only hope before he goes back to XP. I got the 59463 from this forum, "news" --"lost your Windows discs?----" the last post by Gregrocker. I had no idea that I had downloaded the wrong one until I saw your posts, the right one is the first in the English list and I clicked on the fifth. The 24208 came via Windows7Forums digital river downloads. I will go for the 58996 as advised.
