ISP says I have botnet

Hello to everyone! My first post here and hope someone can help me out. I came home from work yesterday morning and when I tried to get on the internet I got a message from my ISP saying that my internet had been suspended and to call them. Turns out the tech guy says I have botnet (or A botnet) and I have been sending out hundreds of emails. I had no idea. He told me I would have to re-format to really get rid of it. I have searched online and I ran malwarebytes in safe mode, as well as Superantispyware, but I have no idea if I have gotten rid of this thing. Oh, I also downloaded Zone Alarm and RUBotted, neither have detected anything.

The thing is, I do not have a installation disk for Windows 7. What is the best way to re-format without it, or can I even do it?

Before you try to reformat your PC, download Hitman Pro and run a scan with it to see if it detects anything.

just my usual skeptical self --did you actually READ the ist post -- his Internet has been suspended.

(Reminds me of a time when I was at a large corporation when I had trouble with EMAIL -- the help desk's suggestion was You have to email the guys managing the email system and then they will be able to fix it !!!).

He could probably download the program from work etc -- but my take on ANY virus etc - - I would NEVER EVER trust a computer again that had been infected until the entire disk had been re-formatted and a totally new installation done.

We all agree that there is no such thing as 100% perfect Virus defence short of never using the Internet so why are we so ready to agree that our infected machines can be 100% cleansed too.

As Mr Spock of the Old Star trek would say --it's just not Logical.

The best way is to buy a proper retail version of W7 -- then you'll have the genuine install disk and you can move to another machine if you buy a new one or upgrade.

With the new disk just do a brand new install.

With the use of a computer that can reach the Internet, make an antivirus rescue CD
FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List
Use ImgBurn to make the CD from the .ISO file. (Burn at a slow speed)

Once the rescue CD has found and cleared the virus, call your ISP, tell them that you want to delete your old email account and make a new one with a new password. I would advise you to use a known clean machine, and change all your passwords.
