Issue with Acer 6920 media control pad

I just installed Windows 7 RC1 on my Acer 6920 and cannot get the media pad on the left hand side of the keyboard to work. I installed the Acer Empowering Technology Framework and Launch Manager. When I press the Empowering Technology button at the top of the keyboard, it says "Operating System Not Supported". Not surprising. When I try and control the volume, the Launch Manager crashes and Windows gives me an error. I put both the Launch Manager and Empowering Technology exes in Vista compatibility mode and run them as an administrator for good measure. Has anyone found a work around for the Acer Empowering Technology? I have become very fond of these controls and would really like to get them working.

Yes, I have one Unknown Device and I cannot figure out what it is. Is there a way you can figure out what it is based on the info it gives you?

Empowering Technology Framework doesn't work no matter which version you have. However the programs that depend on it, like eAudio Management an ePower Management, work fine. The RH side controls fortunately aren't dependant on this, and the driver is separate:

You need to install the Dritek Kilimanjaro driver from Acer's FTP site. If there isn't one listed for the 6920, or that one doesn't work, then grab the latest ones for the 8920 (it's the same device on both) - those are both 32 and 64 bit drivers too so no need to go hunting for specifics. They work perfectly too, identically to Vista.

I guess I am not sure what I am supposed to do. I downloaded the Dritek Kilimanjaro package and installed it, restarted, but it is still not working. Is there something I am missing?

I think now that it might be a combination to get that to work - missed it since I've reinstalled this thing more times than I can recall.

I think you need to have the Dritek drivers, the empowering technology framework (doesn't matter that it says OS not supported) the Realtec driver and the eAudio management software. That *should* give you the volume, mute and hold options. If you're lucky you'll also get the rest of the options working with Media Player. If not, you'll need to install the Acer Arcade software.

If that doesn't work first time I'd suggest a clean reinstall, and install the drivers in this order:

Intel_PM965_GM965_8.3.0.1013_Vistax32x64 (Mainboard)
Robson_Intel_Robson_v1.5.0.1013_Vistax32x64 (Turbo Memory)
VGA_nVidia_9PGS_9PGE2_9EGE_v7.15.11.7626 (Acer's Nvidia 176.26 Drivers)
Audio_Realtek_ALC268_ALC885_ALC889_v6.0.1.5683_Vistax32x64
LaunchManager_Dritek_Kilimanjaro_v2.0.00_Vistax32x64_XPx32x64 (LH Side Controls/RH Side Buttons)
FingerPrint Utility_ABIG_v6.0.00.15

Then these can be in any order:

Bluetooth_Foxconn_BT2.0_v6.0.1.5000_Vistax32x64
WebCam Utility_Suyin_0.3M DV_v2.0.4_Vistax32x64_XPx32x64
CIR_ITE_IT8512E_v5046_Vistax32x64 (Infra Red drivers)
CardReader_Silicon_JMB385_vR1.00.09.03_Vistax32x64_XPx32x64
TV Tuner Drivers (if you've got it)
Modem_Foxconn_v2.1.84 Vistax64 (or x32)

The touchpad drivers are your choice as it works fine without but they're just generic. You can also ignore the network drivers as they work fine too.

Then install Empowering Technology Framework and eAudio Management.

As long as all goes well there are a couple of things you'll find (I'm assuming this is the first time you've reinstalled on the 6920). You need Flash installed or the fingerprint reader software wont work - will keep saying Class not Registered. Also you may get the fabulous and unfixable problem of the fingerprint reader itself working backwards so you need to swipe towards the screen rather than away from it, but that happens in Vista too.

Well, still no luck. Trying to avoid a clean install. If this helps, the launch buttons on the right hand side work(browser, email, etc). It is just the touchpad I have issues with. When Launch Manager is running and I try to change the volume, Windows pops up a message saying Launch Manager is no longer responding. Does that indicate what the problem may be?

Just follow the step wich "CACTUS" wrote:
Download the "Launch Manager Dritek Kilimanjaro" driver from Acer's FTP site....
Run as adm.... when the blue screen Shows... Press firmly the button to start running the instalation....
I could'n install for the first time because i thoght the instalation button had an error. Just click more than twice times and you should be able to install it.

If the problem persists, just take the battery off and put it back. (let it for 5 minutes...)
Uninstall the driver you had and install the Kilimanjaro...

See ya!

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue with the ACER 6920 and the cinedash controls (touch pad on the left). If you are I found a site (theacerguy.com) and found a solution there. Simply go to the acer website, service & support, notebook, aspire, aspire 6920, click on the application tab and download the "Acer LaunchManager Application". Works like a charm...:D

I started having problems with the CineDash controls on my ACER ASPIRE 6920G as well. Firstly it would ramp the volume up by itself, and when you tried to ramp it back down, it would ramp back up again. Then it got to a stage when none of the controls would work at all. I too tried re-installing the drivers but nothing seemed to help. It was only until i found a forum, and this may sound pretty bizarre, that someone had mentioned that they had turned on their laptop and let windows fully boot up. Once everything was complete they removed the battery from the back of the laptop. I was a bit hesitant to try it, understandably, but it has fixed the issue with mine. Not sure how or why, maybe a static issue, but it has fixed the problem. Hope this helps....
