Issue with Hz screen settings on Nvidia drivers

Could try installing this one with compatibility mode set to windows vista, I used to have a 7 series card and remember the 69.25 being pretty good.

I have the same problem, however I have a GTX 280, which is not an old videocard.

I already updated to the latest videocard drivers (found on Guru3d.com) and also installed my monitor drivers, but the result stays the same friggin' 85 Hz.

I seriously hope MS is going to fix this, cause this is not caused by the drivers. Same thing happened with Vista when one could not select 100Hz in DirectX games (always limited to lower refreshrates), however you were able to set the refreshrate for the desktop at 100Hz (unlike with Windows 7).

As well as the Video drivers you also need to install the CHIPSET drivers for your motherboard

If it's an INTEL one you can download these from the INTEL site. (These are the ICHx type of drivers) and should include any video acceleration features. Newer recent Intel chipsets are often GM9xx type but the chipset driver will work for a whole range of chipsets.

For non Intel chipsets use the DVD that came with the motherboard
Just downloading the video driver itself might not be sufficient.

Hi there.

These refresh rates were normally only of any use for old fashioned CRT's. LCD's and plasma screens work slightly differently and you won't be able to change the mains refresh rate.

On a CRT especially on 50 HZ (European / Australian) mains you needed a decent refresh rate to avoid perceptible flicker on the screen.

Decent LCD's and plasma's work differently. An old card might not even work with a modern LCD either.

There really isn't any point in using big, unfriendly environmentally hideous and energy hogging CRT's anymore.

If you are using a CRT that could be the limiting factor in the refresh rate rather than the video card especially if you are "pushing" the resolution.

Normally, though, when 'pushing' the resolution, the refresh rate *drops* as opposed to being stuck at a high level. It could be as simple as trying to find drivers for the monitor itself, since the DEID info may be hosed or may be read incorrectly by the OS for whatever reason....

To all those that put the blame on the hardware and in some extend on the user for not upgrading, I would like to remind you that Windows is flawed ever since 2000 with its 60Hz limit in 3D applications. And now, nine years after, even if CRTs are dying slowly, are still holding their grounds until OLED (if ever) becomes mainstream and led backlit LCDs... lowend.

I know this is a safety measure, but we should have the choice of running out of manufacturer default settings that could be wrong like we do with our CPUs, VGAs, RAMs. Can we do that in Windows 7? Yes we can. Why make an exception for resolutions and frequencies? Requiring an hardware mod is too much to ask.

But once you do it, you will feel great

I can't seem to find any drivers that work for my monitor, which is restricting me from going to 100hz for gaming.
