Issue with new internet - 1 gig.

My provider upgraded my internet connection from 60mbs to 120mbs for the same price and unlimited download. I said yes.

When testing the connection, it goes up to 95mbs. I figured my actualy internet setup is set a 100mbs. My ethernet card do support 1 gig, so does the modem and the cat 5e cable that link the two.

If I set up 1 gig connection on my ethernet card configuration, the internet connection stop and it tells me that I do not have an internet connection anymore.

Intel Ethernet I217-v onboard.

Does the router support 1gig? The key word is up to 120 Meg it may vary a lot on time of day weather and price of eggs

How long is your cat 5e cable?
Is your modem a cable or fiber optic?
As Samuria mentioned, up to 120M doesn't mean you going to reach that speed. As all connections are shared in some place above on the net, depending on the hour of the day, you may have a faster or slower connection. Try to measure late at night.

The Modem is a cable modem. The ISP provider tells me that I can reach it. The cat 5e cable is 2 feet long.

There is actually no router installed, the modem is directly plugged throught the cat 5e on my computer.

As soon as I select 1gig duplex on my ethernet card, the connection stop.

What are the specs of the modem unless they gave you a new one it may only be 100 meg. Just using a modern is madness as your PC is live on the net with a router it can't be reached directly but with a modem it can do any hacker can connect directly to the pc

The speed the ISP states is ONLY between you and the ISP. Once inside the ISP or on the web the speed can and in most cases will be less than the ISP speed. And, as previously noted the speed can change depending on where you are connected, time of day, etc.

If you use a speed test service such as speedtest.net it is external to the ISP, thus may never show the full ISP speed.

As Samuria mentioned, maybe the ISP allowed the 120M transfer on its sever but your modem isn't able to deal with that speed.
Can you give us the modem specs? (Brand, type etc)

Arris TM822

The modem support is. It is an Arris TM822 cable modem. The Provider is the fastest in the province, Vidéotron inc. In my sector you can reach 200 mbs easily on their network. Vidéotron Cable gives you usually 2 to 5 mbs faster than what you pay for. They are a very good ISP provider in my sector. My old speed was 60mbs, I could reach 65mbs easily.

File attached : ethernet board configuration. It's french, but you can see the numbers. Same. If I select the 1gig to go over 100mbs it turn off the connection and tell me a cable is disconnected. If I put automatic detection, it set it up to 100 mbs.

There is no wifi actually on here, only direct cable. My PC cannot be hacked.

1) To use full duplex (1G) you must set it on your card and on the cable modem. Did you logged in into the modem to see its configuration? As the cable modem is from your ISP did you already asked them for support?

2) Routers has a hardware firewall, that acts as a first barrier. Software firewall is the second. Samuria alerted to you that you should have a very good firewall under Windows. I don't trust Windows firewall. I use Zone Alarm.
3) Did try to change the cat 5e cable?

1) I did not logged into the modem, but the ISP had it reset to allow the 120mbs. Confirmed over the phone with them.
2) No need for additionnal security on my computer, it is not an issue. My brother is a network tech and everything has been set-up properly before.
3) I did not try to change the cable, maybe I can give it a try, I have another Cat 5e cable.
