My headache is this. This weekend windows sent two batches of updates and somewhere in the 24 updates one (1) failed. When I reviewed the failed update and tried to reinstall it I ran the Microsoft Fit it program. Now the Update Log says that I have never installed any updates and that only two optional updates are available. Using the control panel it appears that the updates are still there, but I am not sure! Any ideas what might be wrong and how to put the genie back int the bottle

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

I see that you posted 4 weeks ago in the thread for this tutorial:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91738-windows-update-reset.html
The first part of the tutorial mentions that the history will go away from the View update history link.
(Edit: the things done by the tool in the tutorial is almost the same as the MS Fix-it tool.)

If you go to Start and type in view installed updates into the Search programs and files field, then click on the resulting link, you should find a list of installed updates.

You can see me looking at that list of installed updates in the video in this post:

Usernameissues: Thank you very much: About 10 minutes after I typed that post I did what you are supposed to do and reviewed all of the posts above the comment and I saw the answer to my question. I appreciate you taking the time to point me in the correct direction. One thing, I really like W-7 (I must be different) but the whole update business is maddening, every time I see the update notification I cringe!
